Only, they don't make stuff anymore. They put out a farewell CD last year which had a few new things on it and some remixes of older stuff... but their heyday was at the height of the "Goa" sound in 1995-1998. But their sound and production was ahead of the times even then. Those guys definitely know their synth programming.
I still believe that the best all-round live experience is had in front of the other Israeli duo, Infected Mushroom. Their best albums (in the psytrance arena, artists tend to release whole unmixed CD albums, not tracks on 12") are Classical Mushroom and B.P.Empire. Both are really great, but if you ever want to check these guys out, I'd recommend getting B.P.Empire.
Totally blows fluffy epiprogressive trance away. It can be happy, but hard. Dark, but uplifting (and hard!!)

I think "Another World" was probably THE best EDM album ever!! But I also love the "Dancing Galaxy" just as much! so who knows (just cant get enough of 'Liquid Sun' from that album). The thing that makes Astral Projection the cut above the rest is their CONSISTENCY with making amazing music. it never gets boring...its extremely intelligent and you're absolutely right about them being ahead of the time. well when you work so hard and it takes you atleast 2 years to come out with an album, ofcourse its gonna turn out to be a gem.
You're also right about Infected Mushroom! their definitely following the foot steps of Astral.
I think thats what missing from todays EDM scene.....consistency. not too many artists are just being consistent with quality music. It just seems like they're more worried about the quantity than quality and when you worry about churning more music out, without even working hard on the final product...that to the listeners becomes very boring and dull sounding....and that is the state of this genre right now....just flat out boring!

what does selling a mix CD on a commercial have to do with the quality of the music oakenfold spins? i don't see the connection. i still maintain, if you like trance, look at oakenfold's playlists. of course he plays a variety of stuff that isn't trance as well.
Be sure to stay away from his recent original productions though. Those do indeed suck a left nut. :smurf:

I have heard oakenfold trainwreck multiple times, his track selections have been downhill since Tranceport, especially since he gets first printing white labels of EVERYONE's stuff like a full year before they release them...
plus, here's a good story for you as to how much of an ego maniac he is, about a year ago Oakenfold was playing at this big festival event up in New York with bands and such, like 90,000 people etc, he gets there and gets ready to go up to the decks and realizes that he left his records at home back in the UK!!!!! :wtf: I guarantee he brought his possee and all his othe things, but as a DJ how the FUCK can you forget your frikkin records!
I used to me the biggest Oakenfold fan. I love trance. but then I saw him live and it was all over. When he is behind the decks he spins the entire record and just stand there with his hands in the air like "worship me" I was so turned off right then.
Tranceport is still one of my favorite CD's, but the man is done.

Paul did redeem himself in my mind a bit after his set at Ultra . . . but all HIS shit after Tranceporter has been . . . well . . . Bunk(aa)
Really bad pun, but seriously, who would release an album that had the word "bunk" in its title. :)

John 00 Fleming is by far the best trance producer, with the best Trance label... He is way ahead of the pack with his track selection (as well as incorporating some kickass classics), a genuinely awesome person, and a sick producer. Few Dj's can successfully drop the different forms of trance that he does.

I'd have to second these nominations: :raveon:
Mauro Picotto
Marco V
AVB
Gabriel and Dresden
and veto these nominations: :loser:
Paul Oakenfold (blah ... overrated)
Christopher Lawrence (saw him at Cow Palace in San Fran - not that great)
Sandra Collins (seen a couple times in GA .. eh ...)
Production wise
Alibi
katcha (more progressive house)
Justin Scott dixon
Canny
Labels I followed over the years :
Platipus records
Bonzai records
BXR
vandit

This thread is pointless since we have no idea what kind of Trance taste Joey's friend has.
He might as well go to a Record shop and search for TRANCE lol. But to add to the conversation: Im really into the following Psy groups at the moment;
Wizzy Noise (they rule!),
Infected Mushroom (new album is called "Im the Supervisor", kicks ass),
Misted Muppet (beyond mindblowing music)
Electric universe,
bizarre contact,
melicia,
Sirius Isness ,
etc etc etc etc

I'm a huge trance fan. BUT, i wouldn't juice over Tiesto or PVD. Heh. Hell, i wouldn't juice over any bigname DJ. I love a lot of the big names mentioned above this post though.
