Space34 To Close October 11th

Final confirmation of the closure of Space34. Sent by Space owner Louis Puig.

NO MORE SPACE AVAILABLE
"SPACE34 SHUTS ITS DOORS"

Lately, only negative press regarding Space34 has been gracing the pages of our home town newspapers.

Space34 pioneered the revitalization of Downtown Miami, tripled the area's real estate value, brought over 5 million dollars in tax revenue and chased away the homeless and crack dealers from what was once a completely dilapidated area.

We won an award for "Best Night Club" and presented more world class DJs than any club in the US and not a word was printed. We sell more liquor than any other club in South Florida but all they can write about is water and ecstasy.

Over 3000 music loving, liquor drinking customers walk through the doors of Space34 every weekend but the media chooses only to focus on a hand full of partiers that choose drugs as their recreational vehicle.

Could this really be the only place in town where drugs are used? Who will be the target of their next "investigation"? What local business will they help shut down next?

I guess it is true, "nothing sells like negative press." We refuse to be the topic of any more negative publicity and continue doing business in such a hostile environment.

We would rather shut down our doors than do business where we are not welcomed. The media will have to find a new scapegoat.

We are tired of being singled out and made an example of simply because we are the largest and most popular club in the Nation. We will no longer be the scapegoat for the drug problems plaguing our City, State and society at large.

No longer will Space34 be the target of misdirected and unwanted blame for the drug problems of our community. In schools, at work, on the streets and even in government offices, illegal drug use is rampant and abundant. It affects every part of our society.

The notion that Space34 and this nation's night clubs are the source of drug abuse in our society is a blanket statement that is nothing short of ludicrous.

Listening to music and dancing is not a crime. Our government is using the unconstitutional Amber Bill / Rave Act / Crack House Law to try and shut down night clubs, concerts and public gatherings.

These establishments should not be blamed for the inefficiency of our nation to control the importation, distribution, sales and use of illegal drugs. Shutting down night clubs will not stop people from doing drugs.

Space34 will be closing its doors as of Saturday October 11 2003. Join us this week for our pre closing and the MURK CD Release Party.

There will be an official "Closing Party" next week starring Subliminal Records Erick Morillo. This will be the first time ever that Erick performs at Space34 and we are very excited and pleased to have him. He will be doing both Main Room and Terrace sets.

Joining Erick will be residents Oscar G, Roland, Markus Schulz, Tony Tone, Radamas.

The owner, management and staff of Space34 would like to thank everyone who supported and believed in us. A club is not a club without clubbers and a dance floor is just an empty floor without dancers. We would have never made it without you. Keep on dancing.

:dammit:

This really is saddening, but on the bright side, at least they aren't closing due to having no business whatsoever. It shows that there is still a demand and a music-loving community in Miami (and in the US in general), but that misconceptions about electronic dance music consistantly need to be squashed.

(Support DCNC! We love you.)

I never go to go either... :usa:

Hey All
I may be a newbie, but I can feel how the owner may feel or atleast how I'd feel. I think anybody a cluber or raver, what not dreams at least sometime that it be so cool to own a club. Big the big man right? I was really hit by this post even though I dont know too much about this club, the negative energy put on it by some people that didn't know the whole truth shut down that dream.
Imagine being that owner, you put the money in it gets built. You feel on top of the world, your club is drawing 100s of people or more each night, world known DJs. Most of all your changing some people's views. When you goto a club more then likely all you were there for was the music, and the bills and the car and ur wallet that got stolen...all those problems were left at home. For those hours your just dancing with friends. It really describes PLUR to a great respect. and maybe i'm totally off...but inside the club they'res peace, not very much hostility...Love, Many people are there because they love the music or the DJ, Unity..were all there together for a great time not to denouce others because they're dance is different...and Respect, you never ussually see someone getting mad the DJ cuz he spun a record he didn't like. There's more to it...
But imagining beign the owner and actually having that decision to shut it down...Just because some news reporters, dont get the full story...I'm sure they didn't ask the DJs what they thought of the club, or the promoters outside, the bouncers keeping security or the people that it really should matter to the people that go to them...If were not affected...who else is it affecting? I'm sure the news reporter isn't affected if a few people goto the club to take E or something else...
In the club, i'm sure u've had someone ask you where they can find pills and you just say nah and they move on...no problem.

I just can't believe he'd have to shut it down cuz of some bad publicity. The owner shows his pride for his actions, but I couldn't loose a dream like that...If your dream was just always to own the best Nightclub and you had it, and you just had to shut it down, let his dream go...because he is the scapegoat of the area for drug use...

Hey...
Well if anyone knows the owner's email address, we should all send him some mad PLUR...he sent a strong message to the public with that annoucement that he was tired of them picking on them...and we know what's what they do to clubs and the owners stay low ussually but he stood up and i hope he wins....be a shame not to see a club like that make it!

There is no comparing the two clubs. Being a D.C. native Space was a crab club. Although, I am sorry to see another club close becauase they did what they did well. I love a club without a dress code. When i need to get dressed up to go dancing, it sucks. Give me baggy-ass jeans and a baggy shirt and i am in heaven. I felt like i was in an Armani add when i was at space. Beautiful club but not for me.

To all who are coming to WMC there a plenty of great clubs in Miami.

No doubt. I went once after Ultra . . .

. . . they shooed away myself and 30 other party kids at the door because of what we were wearing.

Ended up having to settle for Sasha and Digweed. :afterbuzz:

^^^ Well, damn. Now I don't feel so bad for missing the afterparty...we would have gotten shoo'ed away too.
:postal: dress codes.

Plus the Digweed/Sasha Party had satin-sheeted beds in the VIP area . . . no fucking kidding. There were at max like 250 - 300 people there too, it was insane.

Too many clubs taking the brunt of this act and that. On the other hand, the masses can be controlled to an extent. All clubs reserve the right to entry and the right to eject. 18, wanna party for your first time, get caught, get out. 21+, drink too much, make an ass of yourself, get out. I believe the candy kid days are out and if you stand firm with it youll always have a negative conotation associated with you. (I know, I know, but its comfy and damnit Ill dress how I want) Change is good sometimes and bottom line is: guilt by association. It does suck but you have to go with the flow. I suggest reading "Who moved my Cheese" My three cents worth.

Candy? I'll I'm asking for is to be able to wear a pair of tennis shoes.

It sux that these clubs are feeling the pressure to shut down...but change IS good! I'm sure another club will open up that might be better than Space.

ahh... someone else who read the same thing out of it.

the fact that this is a voluntary closing makes it a bit different than it being "forced to shut down"... From everything I've gathered, even Buzz's voluntary closing was infinitely being closer to forced than what's going on with Space currently.

candy isnt the tennis shoes- its the blinking bracelets, pants we could all fit into -together- etc. i dont need to explain what a candy raver is - if you think its the shoes then I dont know what to tell you! :slap:

Hey,
they only time i like candy is when i am looking for some fun dip (man i love that shit). But, seriously, i am all for change, God knows we all need it every now and again. When i go out to dance i think that baggy is better because it seems that you can glide easier on the dance floor with baggy clothes. It is ten times more comfy and i am not going to take out my versace jeans to go dance. I grew up on baseball caps and layers of clothes. A tank top, longsleeve shirt and a sweatshirt or windbreaker and baggy jeans if possible. Dancing is serious business. Space lacked that. It was pretty people from NY with tight jeans and shirts. I guess as long as they are having fun is all that matters. Okay for them but not for me. I guess I am just alone in my thoughts. Give me a corner on the dancefloor and some good music and i am one happy sons a bitch.
