With the upcoming, sure-fire blockbusters X2 and Matrix: Reloaded coming this month, I am wondering who is looking forward to the next big comic movie.. The Hulk.

For those who have yet to see the trailer, check it out: http://www.apple.com/trailers/universal/the_hulk/

(btw- for those die-hard fans of the old Hulk TV show, Lou Ferigno has a cameo in the movie as a security guard.)

I dunno, the trailer seems a little over the top. seems like the could have used someone like Goldberg instead of puter animation

The Hulk is 10 feet tall and about 500 pounds. Goldberg is not.

But Lou Ferrigno is!

Lou Ferrigno is a badass motherfucker. I used to watch that show all the time. I was really young and often got scared and had to hide in the other room.

oh yeah...the trailer isn't that good. I don't know if the cgi is going to be good enough to pull off the movie. remember "spawn"? great character....subpar cgi.

I'll have more faith in the movie then Spawn! I don't think the movie is going to be all CGI extravaganza. Ang Lee is directing it, which gives me some hope that it'll be decent.

Besides- Spawn: good character who got old quickly; Hulk: Classic character who never goes old

I dunno Rob, CGI has ruined many a movie...I "accidentally" watched the first 20 minutes of Scooby Doo Saturday night. :shudders: I hate watching CGI w/ real characters.

yeah...not too many movies pull it off succesfully....george lucas seems to pull it off along with the movies: Matrix, T2 and The Jurrasic Park movies.

*cough* Lord of the Rings.

I'm not saying that movies that lean heaily on CGI are great. I'm just saying that Hulk shouldn't be assumed in the same category as Spawn. God, that movie was terrible, and it wasn't just the CGI that made it bad. Granted, I would rather see a live action Hulk as well, but SPAWN?!!! Wait until the movie comes out first before making that judgement.

I use to read the spawn comics and I thought it was a good story and the art in the comics was very good. They could have made a really good movie.

yeah LOR was good as well.

The thing that is lame about the hulk is the previews aren't showing any of the movie...like they are trying to hide something. Didn't scooby doo do the same thing? Not that I would see that even if the cgi was good.

Not in some of the newer trailers. What's to know about the story? Bruce Banner gets infected with Gamma rays. He gets mad and turns into the Hulk. The army tries to capture him. HULK SMASH! WHY WON'T PUNY HUMANS LEAVE HULK ALONE?!

Spawn was good for the first couple of issues. Then Macfarlane got a huge head. People surpassed him in both writing and art. Now his toys are the shit, and his comics are just shit.

yeah...I didn't like when he had someone else take over drawing spawn.

I use to love Image comics.

Image has one good regular book- Powers (which they are making a movie of as well)

I haven't looked at comics in years....use to love.... wildcats....Pitt (which was a basically a brown hulk)...youngbloods was alright. cyberforce was okay. I liked xforce when liefield was still drawing it. Use to have a shitload of comics...but then I moved and sold them all and never looked back.

WaldC.A.T.s was part of Wildstorm (along with Stormwatch, Gen 13, etc), which was initially a branch off of Image, but is now a DC property.

X-Force got really interesting. The old team (Cannonball, Meltdown, Domino, etc) seemingly died in an explosion, and a new X-Force came around. The new team are more of a celebrity mutant team, who are more concerned with their popularity and celebrity status than anything else. They eventually had to change their name to X-Statix because the old X-Force was gaining royalties off the use of their name. The book is written by Mike Alldred (Madman).

that's pretty cool.

did image get bought out? It seems like all the artists went back to marvel or d.c.

No, Image is still around... the third biggest company, under DC and Marvel. The writers and artists bounce around. MacFarlane is still Image, Brian Michael Bendis writes for Image...

Most of the best talent in the industry does books for either Marvel and/or DC. Bendis does books for Image and Marvel.

I guess my thing is that all the other "super hero" movies had a real person playing the hero, not CGI. Examples: Super Man, Spider Man, Batman, etc. They were able to pull off incredible stunts (blue screened of course) and I think it helped the movies have a little more realism, as much as you can have with a super hero movie.

alot of the spiderman scenes were cgi...and it was done very smoothly....I thought spiderman was really good, because the effects didn't hinder the story.

I can understand the want for a real person playing the Hulk, but I also understand Ang Lee's choice to go with CGI for the character. Thinking about it Hulk even in the comics, was pretty cartoonish looking. We are talking about a someone 10 ft. and 500 pounds...trying to fuse a real life character into the types of things Hulk is going to be doing in the movie could possibly prove to be more harmful than just going CGI all the way.

Hey most of MATRIX 2 was cgi and they did a good job.. even thou you could tell what was fake and real, but still good.

Yes, but Hulk looks like Shrek on roids.

took me most of the weekend to watch the hulk...I feel asleep a few times. The movie was slow....the characters lacked depth and personality. horrible. The only thing good about the movie was some of the effects. Thought the faceoff with his dad and the end was supa weak. what a disappointment.
