Sonic Groove Records. It really only makes sense that DJ Culture was going to become as big as it has in these past years. Between the amount of information found on the internet, as well as computers giving anyone the freedom to create their own personalized playlists, the world is full of people calling themselves DJ's. But here is where the art fell apart... The network which once existed between word of mouth and the streets.

Sonic Groove Records was the brainchild of three New York techno DJ's, Brothers Frankie Bones & Adam X along with Heather Heart. The operation began in early 1990 when Frankie first toured Europe and found himself in the U.K.'s Summer Of Love playing records to large crowds between 25,000-33,000 people.

Their legendary Brooklyn STORMraves in the '90s have earned them the reputation as pioneers of American dance culture. "Frankie Bones & Adam X introduced raves by throwing a series of big underground parties. They were known as the STORMraves. Heather Heart started her legendary fanzine "Under One Sky". Many promoters give them credit as the founding fathers of the scene in America. It was at one of these Storm Raves that Bones gave a very important speech after one of his very powerful sets. He explained what the scene was about and why he had brought it to NY: peace, love, unity, and respect. When he finished everybody in the warehouse waved their hands in the air in complete unity. For many it was the most beautiful speech anyone has ever heard," says one attendee. From Prodigy to LTJ Bukem to Carl Cox, some of the best talent to emerge in the global scene has attributed Bones as an inspiration. Playing cutting edge music without gimmicks or limitations, Bones does not follow trends or try to create them. "I do not go for a look or a style," he says. "Fashion goes in and out of style; passion and dedication never go out of style. I love what I do and I have loved what I have been doing."

Heather Heart would also join in on organizing and djing events with Bones & Adam in 1993. Her dj career would blossom very quickly and soon after she would also play events on a regular basis across the world.

By the mid 90's, almost every city in America had a rave scene, and Adam, Heather & Frankie played 3-4 gigs a week both in NYC and abroad. However, the music stopped for a couple of days after September 11, 2001. Being about one mile north of where the World Trade Center once stood, Sonic Groove the record remained for another three years, one month and two weeks.

Selling entertainment in New York City after 9-11-01 was difficult, but the three and crew continued doing everything as they did prior, and after October 27, 2004, almost 15 years from where they began, Sonic Groove records as a retail outlet closed, but Adam, Frankie and Heather have continued to keep the legacy alive and well. Adam runs “Sonic Groove Records” the label quite succesfully with a slew of digital releases in recent years and events are still going strong into the year 2010.

All three are also still active dj's in the worldwide techno scene.

Frankie moved to California in 2006. Adam moved to Berlin in 2007. Heather is still based in New York. But their hearts all still remain in Brooklyn. Every warehouse that is rocked, Loft that is jammed, and dancer that grooves into the early morning owes a bit of respect to these three, and on Saturday April 17th 2010 it shall be given. NYC shall be alive once again with the sounds of the Original Brooklyn Underground.

The 20 year anniversary of Sonic Groove is all about the Futuristic Underground Sonic Experiments, the music itself and the love for that music remains unchanged.
