we (ELM & 88) will be doing a special edition of the dig at u st music hall on april 16th - maybe you can make that?

now lets get back to the discussion of how fucking unbelievable this lineup is!!
bringing Theo to DC has been a dream for all of us for a very loooooooong time, and its finally coming true - with Trus'me at his side! Once you add in KC & Nitekrawler downstairs and Solomon Sanchez setting the mood in the main room, you've got a lineup that features 3 of DCs most talented selectors along with 2 of the biggest names in the deep house/soul/disco scene. All at one of the most intimate, underground venues in the tri-state area!

there are no valid excuses to miss this party - period.

BraunMan

oh, in that case we'll reschedule LOL

I mean, who cares about the "History of House Music Tour w/ Jesse Saunders" when I could be sporting massive amounts of candy bracelets listening to obnoxiously fast, irritating music meant for kids just entering adolescence.

Edit -- the History of House Music Tour is April 16th.

Not gonna let the cat out of the bag for the 24th yet.

In all seriousness though between the Deep Sugar party and your TNT party in January, a new facet of EDM was opened up to me...and the realization that there is a unique vibe at these things....so I appreciate what you guys are doing.

I even saw Frankie Knuckles a couple weeks ago when I was in NYC instead of Trouble n Bass w/Kanji Kinetic...a few months ago I would have laughed at that thought.

I think I remember reading you're relatively new to EDM? Like the last few yrs?

Well I'm sure if you stick around long enough, you'll eventually tire of music meant for kids on drugs with no soul or funk.....

Let me know when that happens, I'll get you your card to the grown and sexy club haha. ;)

Graham, I want more info on this please. I want some sexy-deep-baby-making-house this night (It's mine and my g/f's birthday this night, my 30th). Can you make this happen? If so that would be dope as shit. Also, isn't U st, Tittsworth's new place?

yeah man - won't go into the whole lineup now - but Jesse Saunders was one of the true innovators of Chicago house in the begging - 25 years ago.... since then he's had a career that has taken him across the globe leaving people with replenished souls, smiles and goosebumps in his wake.

yeah, i kind of doubt graham, joe, and company care much about Uk hardocre

you are right - but i still wish them luck with their endeavors - just not our style of music at all. some of the old school uk harcore that lead into the early DnB/jungle sound was cool back in the 90s, but its just a bit too soul-less for my taste these days. to each his own.

i'm sure most of the hardcore fans think house music sucks.

"Theo Parrish, the mad scientist of the Chicago house tradition, is known as much for his haunting, darkly soulful productions as for the surprises in his DJ sets. By his ethos, "house music" is not simply a four-to-the-floor kick drum at a specific tempo; he goes beyond run-of-the-mill house music to unexpected selections of jazz fusion and classic soul. Parrish comes to D.C. as part of the Forward Festival, a five-night collection of electronic music performances, dance nights and production clinics that has matured admirably in its third year. Opening for Parrish at the Trinidad and Tobago Association is Trus'me, a young Englishman generating a lot of excitement with his new takes on post-disco and boogie sounds."

Well done my friends, well done! Musical goodness from start to finish...though I must say my favorite set was Trus'me. It almost seemed as if he had planned a "History of House" set of sorts...because that stuff he was playing at the end was truly some bangin electro and bassline with some serious wobble! I didn't feel like I was missing anything by not seeing Tittsworth yesterday as a result. Awesome stuff.

Loved Theo Parrish for the most part as well, but it seemed like the sound quality went slightly off kilter on the transition to his set. The highs weren't brutal, but they were much more evident than during Trus'me's set. Maybe it was just the nature of the set. The only part I found somewhat boring was when he slowed things down to the point where it wasn't dubstep but super slow funk at points at the end. Yet then he would rectify that by dropping something totally unexpected and fresh to get the crowd really moving again.

It was great meeting Sean, Liz, and Dina for the first time as well.

Last night was AMAZING. I came home drenched in sweat. Danced my ass off and met some awesome ppl on the floor. Theo Parrish owned the night. OWNED IT. God damn.

What was up w/Trus'me? There was skipping at first then he kept fuckin up. Was good but he was def off not that it ruined anything it was just noticable. God damn do I love tnt parties. BBQ later on. I don't want it to end :(

BruanMan - Glad you had a good time... I have to disagree about Theo though. I personally don't like flatlined linear sets, and enjoy when a DJ can play uptempo and midtempo in the same set. I thought Theo CRUSHED it.... and he played vinyl all night long. His record case was prob 80lbs... and those records (I got to look through them a bit) are ALL rare gems...

That shit was bananas..... if you missed out, well... you missed out.

i wouldn't classify it as dubstep...just really raw basslines at a slightly slower pace. the end of his set was almost impossible to fully soak in - i'm still in shock from how fulfilling it was to have theo and trus'me on the same night!

Yeah I just didn't understand why he felt the need to slow it down towards the end of the set? It was obvious he was skilled technically and he had a certain idea about what he wanted to play...but why slow the tempo at a bumpin party unless you are going to play extremely heavy bass and have jaw shattering drops?

Guess it was just a new experience for me.

once you have been listening to this kind of music for a long time you start appreciating the subtleties involved and develop a way of listening differently than you used to. just because the tempo is slowed down doesn't mean the vibe isn't just as good if not better. having a dj that plays really hard and fast all night lost its appeal for me a long time ago.
