Andy Clarke began experimenting with programming breaks as a teenager; he met Ant Miles at the studios where he was working through a family connection. They began working together in Ant's converted garage studio where Andy nurtured what was to become a sublime talent for chopping up and re-programming breaks. Andy then decided to set up his own label in early 1992 with a budget of £1000. RAM - so named due to Andy's star sign, Aries - launched with his solo debut and now-highly-collectable 'Sour Mash EP'.

At the age of 15, together with Ant, Andy created magnum opus, 'Valley of the Shadows (31 Seconds)' under their Origin Unknown alias. Often referred to as the 'darkcore prototype', the track won Best Hardcore Tune at the 1993 Hardcore Dance Awards where Andy also collected the prize for Best Newcomer. By this time, his DJing career had begun to progress at a meteoric rate; he had a show on pirate station, Cyndicut FM and secured slots at key raves including Imagination, Club Elevation, Dreamscape, Innovation and Telepathy, where he became a resident. By 1994 together with Ant, he assumed another alias, Desired State, delivering masterpieces like 'Beyond Bass' and 'Here And Now'. In the same year, he began to branch out with collaborations, connecting with DJ Randall to create dancefloor smash, 'Sound Control'. Subsequent studio hook ups would involve Shimon and Moving Fusion.

Origin Unknown's 1997 album, 'Origin Unknown Presents...Speed Of Sound' won Best Dance Album at the Kiss FM Dance Awards and Best Album at the Hardcore Dance Awards, where Andy also collected the gong for Best Producer. The 1998 follow-up, 'Origin Unknown Presents...Sound In Motion', preceded the birth of RAM Trilogy; Andy C, Ant Miles and Shimon's studio hook up. In the same year Andy managed to slot in his Wednesday night radio show on London's Kiss FM between global DJing commitments. In 1999 & 2000, he took the award for Best DJ at the Knowledge Awards. His numerous high profile remix accomplishments include Busta Rhymes 'Woo Hah!' (as Origin Unknown - which won Best Remix at the 1996 Muzik Magazine Awards), Adam F 'Circles', and Jay-Z 'Can't Knock The Hustle'. Andy also won the best D&B DJ award on Drum & Bass arena in 2001 & 2002 where in excess of 90,000 people voted, and again at Accelerated Culture's 'Peoples Choice Awards' in December 2002. Andy is also the highest ranking D&B DJ in the current DJ magazine Top 100 DJs placed at No. 28.

Both Ed Rush and Optical are the co-heads of a drum and bass record label called Virus Recordings.

Both have earned acclaim separately, with Optical engineering tracks on Goldie and Grooverider’s albums and releasing some excellent solo tunes on the likes of Prototype, 31, and Metro. Ed Rush also has countless releases, notably on No U-Turn, where he and Nico first emphasized the dark era of drum and bass with the masterpiece album Torque, and Metalheadz, where he produced such classics as “The Raven” and “Locust”.

Their 1998 debut album Wormhole is considered a widely respected genre classic. Their second album The Creeps (2000) became reknowned as well. Their third album The Original Doctor Shade (2003) still garners massive applause on dancefloors. In 2004 they released a mix CD release Out of The Box, which captured the insides of their vinyl bags in those days and included a DVD with interviews and videos. In 2005 they released Virus Vaults, a compilation of unreleased tracks, capturing years 1996-2005. In year 2006 they finally released a new album, Chameleon. It used a new concept; they wanted to play the new tracks live. Live performance was something completely new to the whole virus crew. They still headline festivals and events playing solitary or together as DJs.

It is commonly said that their best work is done together, although there is a vocal minority of fans who will loudly state that their career took a creative nosedive after Wormhole.

Scott Bourne aka Red One is a multi-talented major player… His labels; Ram, Liftin’ Spirits, Frequency and Ratio are all much respected, and Ram now approaching its twelfth year still remains in a league of its own when it comes to supplying the dance floor. His own tunes; have always been a case of quality rather than quantity, purely because there aren’t enough hours in the day. Moving onto Red One the DJ; wicked DJ, always brings the vibes, never better showcased than at his very own legendary club night Ram @ The End which is nothing short of a drum and bass institution that helps push the scene forward.
Scott Bourne is nothing short of a drum and bass expert; he knows everything there is to know about drum&bass for the most part because he does everything there is to do in drum&bass almost on a daily basis! He DJs, produces, engineers, manages, promotes, you name it… he does it all. Just about everyone in the scene knows him and everyone respects him, so much so that what he and Ram Records choose to do many often choose to follow…

http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g151/xxgrecoxx/MCGQ1.jpg

Since its inception back in the early 90's drum&bass has developed at a drastic rate, yet certain themes and characteristics have remained - The charisma, presence and distinctive sound of MC GQ is one such characteristic… MC-ing at the top of the chain for more than 15 years has taken GQ to all the corners of the globe, seen him achieve chart success, and even given him the opportunity to establish his very own record label 'Emcee Recordings'.

Music has been a big part of GQ's life for as long as he can remember: whether he was listening to his Dad's records or tagging along with his brothers soul & funk system, GQ has always been surrounded by music and always keen to be part of it. At school GQ and friend Det (MC) would freestyle along to beats banged out on their desks: but it was watching his neighbour DJ Ron on the TNT system that influenced him to pick up the mic and it was with his good friend Spoony that he managed to find his own unique sound. These were the solid foundations on which his career was built.

GQ's involvement in music turned professional once good friend Julie Braithwaite introduced him to Acid House in the late 80's. Tunes like Joey Beltram's 'Acid Thunder' and 'Big Fun' got under his skin and over the next two years GQ began to organise a whole host of parties, whilst MC-ing and even DJ-ing at others: from Skitzophrenia at Ilford Palais to the legendary raves at Croland Road, then down to KiKi's in Margate, and back to Clapham Common. Weekends were a string of parties going thru from Friday till Sunday night, rolling with the likes of Frankie Valentine, Rat Pack, Grooverider, Mathew B, Richie Fingers, Frankie Bones, and Tony Trax to mention just a few.

It's important to note that GQ had been in the game for close to five years before jungle let alone drum&bass came about. AWOL was a seminal club in establishing jungle, and it was here that GQ secured a residency at the top of the MC world. Representing alongside DJs such as Mickey Finn, Darren Jay, Randall, Dr S Gachet, Kenny Ken, Fabio, Frost, Grooverider & Ron week in week out, and with the tapes being sold all over the place, the buzz started to build and pandemonium soon followed.

It wasn't long before bookings abroad started flooding in: The AWOL tapes established GQ's name in places he'd never been, and so he was one of the first MCs to work in places as far away as Australia and Toronto. Highlights included playing at the same event as Public Enemy in Toronto with over 5,000 people holding their lighters up; being flown to a rave on an island off the coast of Serbia and a helicopter ride to play to 2,000 people in a warehouse in Australia with Andy C.

GQ has always been a DJ's MC, seeing his role as a middle man between the DJ and the crowd rather than constantly demanding centre stage. His versatility is such that he has always been able to switch up to double time and tear down a rave, or keep the crowd bubbling to a liquid set. 'It's all about reading the crowd, and adapting your style.' This approach has meant that you are as likely to see GQ at One Nation alongside Hype as you are to see him with Goldie at a Metalheadz session. Consistency and adaptability have kept GQ at the top of the MC ranks for 15 years and has made him partner to pretty much all of the top flight DJs…

Is 24 a legitimate club now? Do they have a liquor license? When it was that hole W, they only had non-alcoholic drinks, but you could snort a line on the table and no one would care. Is there still a shower in the men's room? Is this place as sketchy as W was? I cant tell you how many times i was approached by securty at W asking me if I "needed anything".

I am interested in this lineup but am hesitant to go to this place. Just cause soem sketchy shit went down in this building under different management. I guess it is a matter of whether or not mine or my wife's legs have healed up enough to stand for long periods of time or dance.

is this place a multifloor or two high ceiling cavernous rooms?

Nah just one floor...a hip hop room (which is separated from this party), an EDM room, and a second recently-converted room that is a former warehouse and also used for EDM. You can move between the warehouse room and the room with the bar easily...you just can't go into the hip hop room if you're here for the EDM. Which is fine by me especially with this lineup.

When I've been there security has always been present and strolling through the venue but not overbearing...ie you won't get a full body cavity search or light shown in your eyes in order to get in the joint. They realize the hip hop and EDM crowds are different.

24 is under new management and you would have no problems having to worry about any "sketchyness". We have very friendly security. Legit ID and dont cause any fights, you will be straight. We also have plenty of couches to lounge on if your legs are giving you problems. PLus you cant miss this lineup! I mean; don't get me wrong, back in the day I loved that place. But I'm not in my 20's anymore, I prefer to party safely now. And when i was there with my boys I was cool with the atmosphere. But now I got a wife to keep safe and would prefer not to be in a crack den. Glad to here its cleaned up and has a safer atmosphere.

I don't know if this was asked already but, whats the layout for this night? Are you guys taking control of all three rooms or will it be just the normal two rooms?

Also, mad respect for bringing Viram on a Friday night to DC.

AND for my bday party =)

The main room is mainly for a different party on friday nights but trust and believe that the sound in the black and warehouse rooms is on point!! I swear last friday, the bass was CRUCIAL! The Viram party is gonna blow ppl away...furreal!

To be honest I'm not that saddened by it. I'm really not a fan of that main room, its layout is kind of shitty and the 'dance floor' is smaller than the main side room. With the proper sound reinforcement, I think the second room and the third room make for better layouts for EDM events. If anything, I would suggest to the people of 3D that if their events ever get big enough to take over the whole club again, make the 'main room' more of a lounge, play some downtempo, and then have the more up beat stuff in the other two rooms.

I feel the same way.. The main room screams hip-hop! I hate that I trip on all those fucking steps! They will be remodeling that room's layout some time in the near future though. :)

The warehouse room will be bigger!!! We are going to extend it back behind the curtains and add some visuals around.

Do you have his Essential Mix?

:star:

Yes but my personal favorite is his Sanctuary 08 mix. Do you have that? Intro mixes Smash TV and Timewarp perfectly...first 10 minutes are epic. Do you have that?

http://rapidshare.com/files/14643602...tuary_2008.mp3

The intro and the way MC GQ rhymes to the tracks and hypes the crowd are so sick. The record skips on the intro and he catches it immediately and does the best save I've ever heard as well.

One request and I know you guys at 3D are probably aware, but this baby will likely sell out. After the Fallmassive mishap and also hearing of a party in MA get shut down a few weeks ago also for capacity/outside line noise/fire marshal BS, please have security tell people to go home once this place hits capacity.

I don't mean to sound like a jerk but nothing would be worse than having Andy C get shut down in the middle of his intro like what happened to Spor in November.

However I'm thinking that Viram will draw a more mature crowd and heads that are really there for the music, always expect the worst though! lol

This is NOT referring to Short Circuit 2, which is a renegade. Short Circuit 2 lineup will not be released publicly, only via the B.A.D.ASS Rave page on FB and via the email announcement with directions to the map point.

Btw, everyone obviously has the option for where they end up afterward but if anyone needs direx to Short Circuit 2, Dom & TriggaHappy Chad will have directions to the map point in their text inbox.

The spot IS 20 min south of DC though for the Short Circuit underground

Anyone have any suggestions/similar problems?

I'd be just as embarrassed to see Red One playing to a half full floor. I mean Virus and RAM...hell anybody on those labels is worth seeing. I'm really interested to see where the majority of the people are tonight between the house room and DNB room. I'm hoping both are packed with people passionate about the music and the vibe makes everyone want to stay until the end.

This HAS to be better than last week, which was a fucking embarrassment. If its not, I may only go to hear DNB in Baltimore.

True but they are both internationally renown and respected DJs from the UK. Render and I witnessed Vicious Circle playing to less than 10 people last week...so I know I'm fired up because that was flat out embarrassing. I know Vicious Circle isn't a household name but still.

According to the FB page for this event there are over 350 confirmed so I doubt there will be the same problem.

Hell if the crowd isn't hype enough tonight for this lineup I don't know what the hell can be done for DC DNB. I'm hoping some real junglists come out of the woodwork and show people how its done.

Other than some sound cutoffs and jumping needles (which is why I guess Ed Rush & Optical had to cut their set short), last night was total Nirvana for me.

Loved the Smash TV/Body Rock combination that Andy C did and hearing Ed Rush mixing it up and dropping Spor's Stompbox remix was awesome!

Another highlight included this random chick out of the blue coming up to me, asking what grades I teach, and then telling me that I dance retarded. I don't believe I ever talked to this person before in my life. Odd. I just laughed and started dancing even more retarded :)

Was great to see the place packed for this after a disappointing turnout last week! :)

Made a last minute decision to come out to this, and I'm def glad I did. That's the first time I've seen Andy C, and I've gotta say, I see what all the hype is about. However, I wish I would could see him without an MC. Sorry, but to this day I still can't stand MC's with DnB. There was one point when GQ was MCing over a breakdown that had VOCALS!!! Anyways, how was last night?

i did my best to enjoy the night but the sound was so bad i had to leave around 2. absolutely no bass and the highs were painfully loud. i know its not easy to put on a show of this size, so i give 3D props for putting this together, but i just wish the sound issues had been addressed. i came out to support paco (lexus king) and he couldn't even play his set.... i'm going to assume the sound problems were the venues fault and not 3D's - just doesn't seem like those guys would have allowed Gemini turntables to be used if it was up to them.

it was nice to see some old heads that i haven't seen in a while and some energetic youngsters, but if i had to make an honest assessment of the night i would have to say that i was disappointed.

thanks again for all the effort to make this happen though 3D - it was nice to see Andy C and GQ again - its been a few years!

All in all fun night, didn't stay for ed rush and optical as my wife is a party light weight haha. Thanks 3D for a fun night, Bring on the next one before i deploy to Iraq !!!

Yeah, sound at this joint is a serious and consistent issue. The only time that was worse than last night was when PoTD came through, and all the highs were distorted beyond recognition.

I appreciate what 3D is doing, and last night was a really good show. Ed Rush and Optical were tearing it the fuck up, and Andy C did as Andy C does. People were definitely having a blast, and I was, too.

Still, any party that's over 20 bucks needs to have sound on the fucking lock-down. And, yes, I understand that DJs ride the levels way too high.

I dunno...I couldn't tune a system, so maybe I shouldn't complain. It was a good party, so sorry for whining, folks from 3D, from some dude that you don't even know.

let me make sure that i stress the fact that i appreciate all the effort that 3D put into last night - i don't wanna come off an some grumpy asshole. i still managed to have a good time. i guess i was just really looking forward to hearing Lexus King play and when his set ended 5 minutes in i was really disappointed. as far as the main room is concerned, the venue needs to invest in a proper sound system and a sound guy that knows how to tune it. if they had turned the volume levels down last night it would have sounded much better. lots of speakers and high volume doesn't mean the sound is going to be good. if you stood right up near the front it was bearable, but anywhere else in the room made me feel like my ears were going to bleed.

no need to be too upset about last night - it seemed like a lot of folks were having a good time. i'd just take the feedback into consideration for the next big party that you guys do.

i wish you the best of luck next time and continued success.

Why did his set end? When I went over into that room around 3 ish there was still music being played? The room where the house music is always tends to have bad sound so thats why I rarely go in there.

I didn't think the warehouse room was too horrible. I've heard the warehouse room sound better in the past...but that assembly is always a party by party operation. Just seemed like last night the sound was an uphill battle from the beginning.

First let me start from saying thank you to all the people that came out and supported our party. Everyone was great, and i was glad to see a whole bunch of new faces. Viram crew destroyed it like always. People did some serious dancing and the vibe was great! I am not going to disagree with the sound issues. I believe that the sound is a lot better than when we first started doing parties at 24 for sure. I do agree with Graham with the Highs being too high and barely any lows. The highs at some points last night made my ears bleed as well and i do apologize about that people. One thing that needs to get out there is that we as 3D have put too much time and money on the sound while the club wont help at all. Its hard to do everything, trust me on this one. Other than that we are trying harder and harder and i hope we just accomplish what we have started. We were in there at 8:50am working on things yesterday, it was insane. I didnt get to enjoy the party like i wanted because i had to drive the djs back and forth from hotel to venue all night. Redone was amazing but he had caught a cold in miami and was feeling really sick. Man could barely stay awake in the car ride. I felt bad, but his set was still amazing i thought! Andy C is a great person, he gave me so much advice on how to change sound issues and many other things about his career. Same as GQ. Ed Rush and Optical were so great it felt like i knew them for years. Lots of cool stories from the Viram Crew. All the locals did a fantastic job, and i do apologize to Paco, i heard the monitor was fried or something. Now about the techniks and geminis....sorry about that, we always use the best equipment for music, but on the hip hop side they had Project Pat and they had to use 2 of the clubs tables which left us with 3 techniks, which Viram requested. It was a last minute thing since we were busy and one of my boys brought his bedroom tables. i know we know a whole bunch of people w tables but we were so busy that we had to resort to that. Not a lot of people want to bring their equipment very last minute u know? i wouldnt either. Other than that the night went fantastic, great vibes, good tunes, and lots of sweating. Thank you all for coming out once again and showing your love to us!!! Lexus King my apologies...you know i love you bro...See you soon dude!

because the Gemini turntables he was trying to use weren't working....
can't remember the last time i saw Gemini's at a party. he played for like 5 minutes, if that.

Aren't most turntables Technics? I've never heard of the brand Gemini lol

trust me bro....that was just a mistake from our part....a huge one! we have never used geminis, and never will again. I hope you understand that it was a last second thing since the party next door came and took our two tables for their party since we were using all 5 teknics. never again!

Man that ticks me off and it kinda shows poor planning on the clubs part as well not to have shit straight on the hip hop end before the party. I agree whole-heartedly that you guys did the best you could last night and it was still a great party. Got to meet Ed Rush and he is a fuckin cool dude, didn't have an ounce of pretentiousness that was apparent anyway.

Also got a kick seeing some of the crowd from the hip hop party wander in after their party was over and seemingly like/get down to the music being played.

How the fuck am I 20 years late to this message board party? Great seeing everyone last night and big up to 3D as always. Seemed a bit loud in the DnB room. The main room sounded fine but I didnt have a monitor. The only issue was of course the Gemini tables. The pitch control was so wack and the slightest adjustment would bring everything to a complete trainwreck. In all fairness, I usually show up around 9 for soundcheck but I was running late. Had I been there I would have noticed the god awful Gemini tables and simply have made a phone call to either bring Technics tables or have someone burn me Serato control cd's and just work off the Pioneers. Most of the time I had to improvise in INT mode or just effect things in and out. Live and learn I guess hopefully if I ever get the pleasure to play again I will now know to bring certain things just in case. The new years eve party was very smooth and I didnt have any technical issues. Thanks again, I had fun though and it was good to see some faces I havent seen in a while.

Gotta say a couple things about friday night:

THANK YOU 3D for bringing the infamous Andy C to DC AGAIN! I seriously cannot thank you enough!! This party completed my year and we are only in March!!! :)

The sound issues I could care less about because I'm honestly there for the vibe, the tunes and the experience and EVERYTHING was sick!! At one point I looked around at everyone in the dnb room and it was like a scene from Groove, LOL I know that shit sounds mad crazy but it's true!! Me & my boys came all the way from NY to see Andy C, Ed Rush & Optical and it was a party I will never forget!!

Also, gotta give props to my homegirl Rhonda!! Thanks for everything girl!! I don't think many know all the time you put in behind the scenes and I def want to say it's very much appreciated!! Thanks for takin time to chill with us too!! Much love from the ny!!

Keep this killer parties coming 3D, NY will def be in the house for the next one :)

O hell yea dude the dancefloor was packed and everyone was dancing. Thanks a lot for comin all the way down to DC. We all appreciate you folks that are really here for the scene. Rhonda is the shit and believe me I atleast recognize all her hard work that she puts into this.

Guys sorry about the Gemini's! I know they cant compare to Technics, it was a mistake that we are paying for. Shit came up and we were stuck, so i was nice enough to lend my crappy tables to the other room. Im a broke ass and cant afford Technics right now and am also in the learning phase of spinning. My apologies again to all the Dj's that had to make way with them.

Cant wait for the next 3D party!
