I'm all about the Hard House/NRG (I feel like there's a lot of crossing over in this area...I like it fast, hard, with a splash of melody, but not trancecore or happycore). And Happycore makes me want to rip out my ears.

NRG has different styles in itself -- hi NRG, hard NRG, etc... hi NRG is basically fast progressive trance that isn't intended as "chill" music, but more like dancing music. hard NRG is a harder version of that. with that said, my favorites would be hard trance, NRG, and happy hardcore/trancecore. hard house would be a close runner-up, but i didn't vote for it cause it's not a "preferred genre." and i like *some* gabber, but other than Paul Elstak and happy gabber, i think it's awful... too hateful and angry. hard techno's cool, but it still gets kinda boring to me, just like tribal techno... it just seems so damn repetitive.

mmm, hard NRG, hard house, hard trance... the harder the better! The reason why I enjoyed Micro's set on 3.01 so much is because he brought it harder than I'd ever heard him bring it... and I LOVED it! If there was a party devoted exclusively to "Hardstyle" I'd be there every week no doubt.

Yeah...it's hard to find breaks tracks that are fast enough, though. A lot of hard house/nrg tracks have breakbeat bridges, but it's not the same.

NO WAY ! I have been following Ron djing for about 10 years and i like Ron, i have played with him, but he is in no way the best west coast dj. If you concider back-spinning out of 75% of the mixes as making him the best then gee OK. If you actually get the records that he mixes you will realize that alot of what you are hearing is on the records. There are shit load of up and comming west coast hardcore dj's who are way better than Ron. You'll see soon enough, just watch out for the lame happy core kids comming out of the bay area bandwagon machine !

Techy Hard House.... sometimes with a little disco funk, other times with a little trancey.
I really like OD404 and the influences of both Dom and Oz.
also, i'm starting to like some more electro sounding hard house. a little bit fuzzier on the bass....

To me, there's nothing that gets you in a frenzy like hardstyle. House, trance, Gabber, NRG, whatever kind...
I spin from downtempo and dub to hardstyle and gabber- there's a place for each. However, when I'm in a good mood, nothing gets my rocks off like some bangin'ass hard shit, whatever you want to call it.

Hard stuff is always great- whether it's the semi-cheesiness UK Hard House and NRG, the eerieness of Hardstyle, or the pure adrenaline of Hard Trance.
Dont forget what was originally known as Hard-Trance... the Acid stuff. Those sometimes scary squelches of that good old 303.
Happy-Hardcore/Gabber/"Trance-core" is great too, but someone like me can only take some of its ridiculousness in doses.
Hard Trance would be my absolute favorite if i could only pick one. The really aggressive-hypnotic kind. :woot:

ok i cant stand this anymore....jesus the confusion of genres is amaqzing here. first of all.."hardstyle" is an actual genre of music (see blutonium, uberdruuck, and most of nukleuz black..to get an idea of what "hardstyle" is).
2nd "american hard house"/"gabber" is not part of the hard dance sound. AS MUCH AS I LOVE VENOM, even he will tell you there is no relationship between the uk hardhouse anbd the "UC" hardhouse.

:trio: this is wrong wrong wrong
nrg has a dirtier sound...this is not an uncommon opinion..this is because MOST people that are spinnin hard dance have no clue what they are spinning. i NEVER spin below 150. that doesnt make everything i spin hard nrg. i spin uk hardhouse, hardnrg, hard progressive techno, hard techno, hardstyle, (and even tho im using less and less) hard trance. i just hate the mental picture that people have of hard dance in general. there is a bubblegum side to it...there is a bubblegum side to everything. but then there is a harder side that most people have no idea exists... :ez:

well its a pretty safe bet that any attempt to mix the 2 (hardcore & hard dance) in the same set, outside of a very fast cut (where any traditional mixing concepts go out the window), is impossible.

It is possible for the 2 to mix but it's an offset for the hard house and in any case they won't sound good to someone who actually know's what a hard house track should sound like lol. It's kinda like the DnB trax that get mixed with a Break track. It may be appealing to mix sometimes but it won't all sound good. And I think I saw someone saying something about breaks with Hard House? Talk with Peter aka Lantern. He's been there! :werd: I heard 1 on that Dj Competion mix from club Five or something like that? Can't remember but I know you did some mixing like that.

Hard House- As for this genre I feel like it goes in many different directions. It's really hard for me to say what hard house track that's came out recently would be considered plain ol hard house. So many branches of style's have came from it. So I'll be safe and say hard house is something like this Hells Drums (http://www.chemical-records.co.uk/sc/servlet/sr?C=NUKP0404&S=B) , Classic feel and still bangin.
Hard Trance- I would say this is some back in the day hard trance Ratty-Sunrise (http://www.bangingtunes.com/play/classic02/a/)
Hard Style- Probably one of my favorite styles within the past few years. Sample of what I consider hard style is something like this Hard as Fuck (http://www.bangingtunes.com/play/prp009/b/) , I meen really the name says it all. But in fact I almost say this style is a slant resemblence of NRG. Because of it's Trancy synth's it can contain. Like this 1 It begins (http://www.bangingtunes.com/play/passion16/b/) .
NRG- I would consider some of the above type artists like Dan Dyson and other passion records to have NRG in there as well but for the most part I would have to go with DBD aka Dark By Design-Visions of Sky Walking (http://www.bangingtunes.com/play/snxw002/a/) Even though it's not what the store will categorize it as, thats what I would say NRG is. Like Hard Trance with a jumpy feel.
Hard Dance- LOL I have to say anything hard nowadays goes here. There are so many branches of different styles in hard dance it's hard to not just say hard dance. I like alot of different styles. So even if it's hard Belgium Trance, German, UK whatever it's all hard. Hard House, NRG, anything hard is in some way shape or form relating to 1 another.
Track I would put in to hard dance-All of them listed above and this 1 too Warp it Glazza (http://www.bangingtunes.com/play/dvr012/b/)
Techno- I like alott of Techno but my overall sound appeal for it right now is stuff like this- EYE OF THE DRAGON (http://www.bangingtunes.com/play/jel034/a/)
Hardcore- I feel hardcore is it's own genre. There are many branches of it as well. And even though I don't know too much about it it's still completely different in track formation then any hard dance type sound. But because it is hard some may just consider it hard dance which in a way it is hard. But I dunno how anyone can dance to it lol. I do like listening to it when it's done wright though. Props to Jimmy and How Hard! I have to say I've liked listening to thier stuff! Jimmy X- Street Kamikaze (http://www.krypticmusic.com/audio/streetkamikaze_jimmyx.ram) Nice Hardcore mix people!
But my choice overall would have to be Hard Dance! It contains everything in my likes. :imyourfather:

Glyphix you are wise indeed. i agree with most everything you say but as far as the hardstyle goes i would stil;l have to disagree (i see the passion releases as being extremely tough NRG), as far as hardstyle, i see it as being stuff like SEX (http://www.bangingtunes.com/play/nukukhardstyle/a2/), PAIN (http://www.bangingtunes.com/play/nukukhardstyle/b/), NOWS THE FUCKING TIME (http://www.bangingtunes.com/play/nukfuckingtime/b/), or anything from the likes of the blutonium, or uberdruck labels as on that line of hardstyle.
********Taken from wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hardstyle)************
Hardstyle is a sub-genre of trance that is closely related to nu style gabber and hard trance. Hardstyle, or sometimes refered to as hard dance or hardbass, sounds very similar to nu style gabber but is usually about 30 bpm slower. The average tempo is between 140 and 150 beats per minute. The sound is characterized by thunderous beats and an anthemic enthusiasm. Many hardcore artists produce hardstyle songs, which sound very similar but are more accessible. Hardstyle is generally played along side NRG and Hard House in the UK and aside hard trance or hardcore in the rest of Europe. :smileyparty:
[edit]
History
Hardstyle evolved from German, Italian and Dutch Hard House which blended with influences from hard trance and oldschool hardcore in the year 2000. It originates from The Netherlands where the first Hardstyle events were held in late 1999, early 2000. One of the key figures in it's development is Dana van Dreeven, also known under her alias Dana. At a later time more of her colleagues from the hardcore-era joined the club, such as Pavo and The Prophet.
[edit]
Current status
Hardstyle is mainly produced by artists from The Netherlands, Italy, Switzerland and Germany; yet other producers from around the world are starting to pick up the sound.
Currently, the scene is booming in various countries around the world besides these founding countries. Scenes worth mentioning are: Poland, Estonia, Denmark, Australia, South Africa and the UK.

ok 1st of all i know kevin energy and jon doe. you are obviously not up on what they play. first off the brits love to call freeform (which is a nice way of saying happy hardcore), "hardcore". i have the utmost respect for these guys but i am not talking about "happycore". when i say hardcore i mean stuff played by the likes of rob gee, delta 9, and omar santana. NOT Breeze and Styles or Hixxy. there is hard AND then there is Happy. do your best not to confuse the 2. :trio: :star:

well i'm glad you know kev energy and jon doe. now let me go on.
Happy hardcore != freeform. at all. it's a different beast. they can be played together, and share influences, and a lot of the same people make it, but they're two different music styles under one genre. hardcore.
people who play freeform hardcore call it hardcore. people who play breakbeat hardcore call it hardcore. people who play happy hardcore call it hardcore. and the people who enjoy the music most call it hardcore. who are you going to trust, all the djs and their fans as to what to call the music, or some punters on the web?
there's a saying in hardcore. "it's all just hardcore." and for that reason, there are a lot of djs who are starting to play breakbeat, freeform, happy hardcore and even gabba all in one set. it's all just hardcore.
if you want to get technical, rob gee, delta 9 and omar santana play gabba. and there's a bunch of people who will insist that that stuff is not "hardcore." it is. so is freeform and so is happy. it's not less or more hardcore.
i'm a hardcore dj. i'm one of the only hardcore djs in the area, besides jeremy c. i have a large collection of it. this is how it is in our scene, no matter what a few people say...

freeform is hardcore. as is happy hardcore. hardcore is a lot more than just rob gee, delta 9 and omar santana.

* a wise man once said "there is happy and then there is hardcore". these are words i live by. i would never insult the integrity of either genre by trying to group them together.

i would. i'm quite glad they're often played together, frankly, cause it adds a nice touch.

Quoting myself "stuff played by the likes of rob gee, delta 9, and omar santana."
what i love about the buzz board
1. When people jump first and ask questions later. of course there is more to hardcore that the three people i mentioned. (and FRANKLY none of it has to do with freeform) freeform and happycore are definitely different beasts. IMO happycore with hardcore stands to add a http://www.lewescliff.freeserve.co.uk/post/3some.gif touch.
2. I also love the fact that everyone on this board knows more than me. without you guys i would be so ignorant. thanks for the schooling. you guys really showed me
