Who here regularly uses three (physical) decks? like two turntables and a cdj, three cdjs, etc. to play three different tracks at the same time? I'd like to talk about best practices since I'm just getting started.

used to have 2 x 1200's and 1 x Numark TTX set up (TTX be broken at the moment). It's been awhile, but it opens up a whole other world, esp with the flexability of the TTX as the third deck. Reminds me I need to order some parts for it.
Now if there were only a 3rd deck interface in Serato...

Chris, from what I understand Traktor already has 3 decks, but I'm not sure if it supports three PHYSICAL decks or if it's just two decks + 1 virtual. Either way I'm not prepared to spend $500+ on that, not to mention if I can master using 2TT+1CDJ I can take "the show on the road" easily.

not so good of example. He used the 3rd, for primarily sampling. Not so much, 3 deck mixing.

three deks can be fun but you really have to work
when i mess around with this i play track one cue track two then cue three off of one as well
yeah it can be a lot of work. i've done 4 decks for studio mixes but a lot of that is pre-selected programming... at a live gig i feel like the time it takes for me to find what i want to play next completely supercedes me being able to work long mixes on a multiple table setup (if that makes sense).
it seems like a lot of people use the third table for sampling or scratching on most cases.

When they are available, I used three decks when I was vinyl only and later on when I was vinyl and CD.
I've been using two decks in Traktor, but recently have found out how to properly use it for up to four (though I still only need two decks to control everything. I'm starting to get some nice layering effects going. It's actually the reason I decided to get a new mixer.

Of course it's a lot of work guys, but I didn't start DJing because I wanted something easy to do. :)
Sean, what mixer are you getting? I understand what you mean about using two physical decks to control four virtual. Still, I think going with two Serato + 1 CDJ is the best way to go for me, since I already have Serato, and most clubs will have two turntables and two CD players (as opposed to trying to do 3 turntables)

do you do two tunes + a capella? Three tunes at once -- that must be hard with something like breaks where there are already so many elements in play.

same deal..
every now and then when 3 decks are there.. i like to get 3 going..
I like using one track as a basic core track and then dropping the other two for some serious layering
definitely gotta focus and keep them on beat or expect some serious shoes in the dryer
also tend to isolate certain frequencies more on one track than the other.. no need to have all the lows/mids/highs playing at the same time.. will just clutter the sound

Yeah .. Helps when you ride the 2 tunes + acapella during the "down times" of the tune. Boths beats + one tunes synth line + acapella = my usual formula at least with my last cd.. and I will def want to try it more in depth for my next full demo.. I was thinking of trying to take it to more of a "djin in parts" level next time around .. But I def dont have equipment like dj enferno.. But i can stretch the most out of 4 cdjs possibly

I kinda do. Like if I'm in the middle of a mix at my house or at a club that has 2 TTs, 2 CDJs and a 4 channel mixer I'll actually cue the 3rd tune while mixing then once I mix out of the 1st tune I'm bringing in the next one.
