I'm heading down from Baltimore to a little place on the Shenendoah river in VA by Luray for some tubing. It's like $16/tube (beer tube is cheaper). The idea is you drift down a river for 4 hours drinking, eating, and carrying on. About half way down there is a cliff you can jump from that seems to get bigger every time I jump off. A little past that there's a rope swing. We stop at Sheetz before hand and Cracker Barrel on the way back. Anyone interested?

Sounds like a good time, but already have plans for the weekend.

Me and Jo were just down that way for a wedding up in the Mts.
Great country.

Bitter. You guys would be fun to Tube with. You know who else would be a trip? Chad. where is that kid? He needs to enter this thread and fill it with shots of 151 and win.

i assume you just lazily pee in your tube as you go as well?

this could definitely be fun. i aint been tubing in forever.

You're sort of half in the water. If you thought peeing on a tree was better you could always get out of the tube and pee with the cows.

Ian! Let me know if you're for serious so we can plan. You need a ride?

naw, i dont need a ride, but how many people are going?

Right now I think we've got 6. You'd make 7. I'm debating on how big I want to make it. Large groups are fun, but I imagine a group of 20 would have a hard time finding seating when they walk into cracker barrel.

People have been telling me about this... So you byob and just bring it with you when u get on the tube and float down chillin with a brewsky for a few hours??

Hey i dont want to sound like a downer to you here trust me im planing a trip for next weekend but trust me now is not a good time. 3 things you have to consider

1. with all the rain the water will be high

2. with all the rain the water will be faster and dangerous

3.with the lack of sun and hot temperature or and more rain the water temp will be like 69 digreess and trust me that sucks i know i just swam in an indor pool that was 70

like i said not trying to be the downer just putting my 2 cents in i love tubing my wife and i have all our own stuff. I would just hat to have people get turned off by it because it not the right time.

He speaks truth. With the weather we are having right now I'm skeptical about making it out next weekend. Unless we get a hellacious heat wave next week we will probably postpone.

Sounds fun man, not only would it be cool to float down the river with some beer, but to spark a doobie on the way down the river would be killer.

I'm sure the doobie thing has never happened...

1) Water will be high. Good. That cliff jump seems higher every time I climb it and look over. Maybe this will be the time it finally doesn't scare me.

2) Water will be fast. It takes anywhere from 2-5 hours. 4 is pretty standard. At times, it's painfully slow. Your average speed is 1-2mph. If we were closer to 2 hours, I'd be okay with that. Since I'm not drinking or lighting up I'm in it for the brief stops to jump off the cliff and rope swing. Think about it guys. It's normally an average of 2 or 3 feet deep. If it were twice as high and 3 times as fast it'd still be shallow and slow. Rapids? That's entertainment!

3. Water temps. Yes, it'll be cool *and* refreshing. I'm a candy ass. Thanks for reminding me. I'll bring my wetsuit just in case.

I will run this stuff by those planning to attend but I have a feeling they're still going to make a run of it.

Ok man good luck

and when i say the water is fast i don't mean that in a time spent kinda way. more like if you fall out or hit a rock you might not live to tell people about it.

neonphase
2009-06-05, 11:22 AM

We're going further south to VA. We talked with the outfitters today and they say it's normal. In order for it to be bad it would have to rise FEET from its current position. Maybe all the water will drain down south eventually but right now it's smooth sailing. The only concern would be if you get cold when partially submerged.

Have fun then man!

Cheers!

Oh P.S. No glass only cans if there are any rangers out and about they will get you for that. We watched them give a $50 fine to a bunch of tubers just for drinking out of bottles. We asked around and found out that its to dangerous to have if they break in the water it means bad news for everyone.

So wait, can we do this the old fashioned way?

Tie a keg to a tube, tie everybody elses tube to the tube with the keg, and then continuously drink beer until we can't see straight?

That's pretty much the idea. Replace keg with a few cases since that's easier but that's the only real difference.

I didn't even know there was any good tubing to be had in this area. I just did it in Texas last month. It was AWESOME!!!! It really is the most relaxing, fun activity ever.
