this is a perfect example of what i talk about when i say there are no limits to how powerful twitter can be.
twitter is not about what you had for lunch.

shade: so Blip.FM will posts songs you are playing in Ableton Live or Traktor or Serato live to the twitter feed from the club?

no, but the article doesn't say anything about integration with ableton or serato either.
honestly any of these apps will link up with just about any kind of software you get out there with a minimum of effort. it's the idea behind it that needs to be new, which is why i kinda have to scoff at hawtin "creating" this.
blip integrates with twitter, facebook, ping.fm, pownce, tumbler, etc. and there are apps to link it with your winamp, wmp, itunes, whatever. same difference - just plug in whatever software you're using to play your tunes.
that's exactly what's awesome about twitter. it's so open and so basic that you can basically plug anything into an incredibly vast and immediate network of thousands/millions/etc.

ok so i found another article that actual has some substance in it: http://www.beatportal.com/feed/item/richie-hawtin-launches-twitter-app-for-traktor/

it works by uploading song metadata through Traktor Pro’s inbuilt broadcasting functionality.
Track details are automatically posted to Richie Hawtin’s Twitter account every 30 seconds
all they did was write a couple bots and automated processes... that's it.
once again - why twitter is so awesome.

I am assuming the integration will be automatic because otherwise its worthless. And perhaps the details wont be revealed till its out due to competitive reasons. I doubt any DJ wants to punch in the names of songs as they are cued. I am sure the app he's "creating" integrates with DJ software, as opposed to a standard music player. So yes, he is creating this app since there doesn't exist one currently
edit: ok just read the article. I wish Ableton did this too

also i have to add that he gets a great big frown and glare from the social media community for not releasing this app publicly. very anti-twitter of him.

you can pretty safely bet that it will soon enough. whether ableton writes the add on or somebody else does it, it's all very basic and simple to do.

u know what though? If all djs did this and I followed like 50 Djs, that would get annoying fast. What would be cooler is an RSS feed link to any new DJ set recorded that gets sent to my email box. This way I click on 1 link and see a tracklist when I am ready and not be flooded by 100000000 songs in an endless twitter

there are twitter apps for that. tons of them.

2009-05-08, 05:12 PM
So what you are implying is that I should get on Twitter eh? :)
shade
2009-05-08, 05:14 PM
what i am implying is that it will do a good job of shredding all your pre conceived notions about it.

any just as an example, tweetdeck is an adobe air application that is free and you can use it to break up your twitter stream into any groups you want. i have about 5 groups set up because there's no way you can follow 100+ people and keep track of anything just through their web interface. just set up a group as "DJs" and then you can only look at their stuff when you want to.
and there are tons of other options as well.

ya sounds cool
thanks for shedding light.
I will still hate people announcing what they had for breakfast though!
