Does anyone have any suggestions on any free software to record sets?
I have audacity right now (I've yet to use it) but have heard horror stories about how bad it is. There's nothing worse than churning out a dope mix only to find your software Fd up.

audacity works okay. you can't really do a lot as far as editing the files but i've never had it crash on me.
i'd play with it a bit first before recording a full mix... as well as before writing it off.

Well this is very encouraging.
Eric & Kyril had nothing but bad things to say about it.
I don't need any editing to be done I just need it to record the show.

i mean it's shareware, so you get what you pay for. soundforge and other stuff like that is definitely better, but at least in terms of stability i've had easily as many problems in soundforge as with audacity.

I think audacity rocks for being free.. Just make sure that you install the lame mp3 encoder with it so that you can export to mp3 when your done...

Sound Forge is trump IMO.
But it's not free.
Find a copy of it.

i've never tried audacity but heard good things about it.
not sure this is the best immediate solution for audio recording, but you might want to regularly check giveawayoftheday.com for free fully-functional software.

I've used Audicity both to record mixes and while tracking certain parts of my album. For the size and price, it really can't be beat.

I've used it and did not have any issues...I prefer SF, but Audacity rocks for freeness.

i have had audacity screw up the sample rate when i've used it to record for long periods - in particular I recorded maybe 4+ hours of an afterparty and when I tried to play it back after like 30 seconds it switched sample rates - like playing a 45RPM record at 33 sort of sound. Wasn't able to recover it. REally sucked - has made me gun shy on that software.

Audacity is open source, not shareware.
I've used it to record about 2 hours worth of tunes, works fine. I've also used it to cut up our 3 hour radio show into 3 parts and it worked fine, didn't crash.

Wow, Goldwave is still around? I used that before I found out about Audacity. Good deal.
