WTF is shoegaze?

Music sounds okay on the myspace page so I may check it out if there isn't much else going on that night.

Uh, have you ever seen his live band?

Let's put it this way, John Graham singing with Hybrid is better.

music to stare at your shoes by because you're too shy/geeky/insecure to actually look at a girl or :gasp: dance?

Think of My Bloody Valentine.

Lots of guitar effects, weird vocal melodies. Basically bands standing pretty much motionless and looking at their effects pedals. More about what melodic noises they can make while still sounding good in a song.

lol... I <3 a lot of Shoegaze stuff... Lush was easily one of my favorite bands in high school (and I still celebrate their entire catalog)

Is he big? I love and own a ton of his tunes but I didn't that anyone else here had any idea who he was.

he used to be a techy breaks producer. made some insanely awesome breaks tunes.

now he makes big ass funky electro house tunes.

but if he started off with the house, tbh, i never woulda heard of him. his breaks tunes are techfunk class though.

not really feeling any of the tunes on the myspace page - but at least dude is trying to continue to develop new sounds instead of doing the same shit over and over.

yeah tbh, i hope they play some of the stuff off the last freeland album.

at the end of the day, alex metric is the main reason to go to this show. it's his first time ever dj'ing in this area, and he does not dissapoint.

Werd, I had no idea he used to do breaks.

Beatport lists all his current tunes as Indie Dance / Nu Disco. Same as Moulinex - but both of them sound like overcompressed house tunes to me ;-)

I might check this show out - I've definitely been digging the housier side of the whole Indie Dance thing.

I like some shoegaze/slowcore stuff, too... like.. m83, and Godspeed You Black Emperor and Mogwai, and Sigur Ros, Belle and Sebastian, etc... I don't know what genre all that shit is, to be honest.. but its good..

yeah i dunno if beatport lists his breaks stuff as alex metric, or just metric (which he used to by).

the breaks stuff he did under the metric name is awesome.

also, he does breaks uner "what what what" and "metric & sick rick" (obviously)

if you listen to adam freeland's new solo stuff, i bet you can spot the similarities between it and alex metric.

i think this is going to be a fun show. randy, travis, myself, ed, and hopefully you and others are going, so it should be good times.

Elaborate music with lots of feedback, so named because the players are intently staring at their shoes while playing it because of its intensity and how into it they are.

Sounds dumb but makes sense when you see a band like that.

Drone or doom metal are very shoegazey. Hit up wikipedia and then youtube some of the bands mentioned. I thought it was tard but then I got into doom and drone about two years ago and really like the stuff.

so this is Friday... I managed to get free tickets for it... who all is going?

I caught Freeland at Burning Man this past year after Ana Sia. It was horrible, pop crap. It was Trentmoeller (who I have mad respect for), but incredibly cheesy. Such a shame that the man who made Colours has turned to drivel.

which is all well and good... but I think most people in the thread who were talking abotu going were pretty much focused on the opener ;)

totally. although when asked if he was the opener, metric said he may open or close. he didnt know at that point. either way, he's the reason i'm going.

either way, definitely count me in. i may have an adegen with me as well.

Otherwise I'll just be hitting up Muse.

Colours = Adam F (Fenton) - Drum n Bass
Freeland = Adam Freeland - Breaks
Two totally different people
