Or what style do you prefer in lamemans terms?

not really.. Kemek the Dope Computer, Son of the Electric Ghost, E.V.A.C. all american producers who are putting out some quality ass beats. but for the most part those chaps on the other side of the pond do know how to produce better.

I would have to say it all really depends on what sound you are looking for, as far as the quality of the production UK is deff on top of things, but It seems alot of the same labels just pump out tracks without any time put into them.
this is a no brainer for me.......UK all the way!

UK breaks are much better than the US - we should stick to representin' the ill jungle sound.

I feel that UK producers have been more innovative in the last few years. Not to say that the US doesn't have any flava left, it's just harder to come by.....

Any Genre from UK kicks ass! It all has that "alternative" feel to it.

Does "UK" include UK Garage?....hehehehe
UK breaks are always going to be one step ahead of us. We may have created the breakbeat...but it was them who examined it, refined it, destroyed it, reassembled it, and then made a fucking movement out of it.

I think it's just a phase for now. I like all breaks and I've heard some good music coming from overseas but I've also heard some pure fucking garbage. But UK garbage for some reason doesn't get treated like even halfway decent US breaks. People tend to give the worst UK stuff a free pass just because it's from the UK. I think the perception is much bigger than the reality IMO. I'll spin anything that moves the floor. Kinda silly for a good dj to limit himself.
There are some awful rap boots coming from overseas. Worse than a lot of music people pick on from Florida. Again it gets a free pass for whatever silly reason. People are sheep I guess. That Gimme The Light bootleg was fucking annoying and there have been others.
So my vote is for US breaks because I just can't be cliche.

i dont like playing records other people play.
i really dont.
i dont know, i mean, i just look for a certain sound and if it doesnt have it, i dont buy it.
i cant afford that many records as it is and ive got to make the ones i do get count.
i dont care who makes the track or where they come from.
if its bumpin, ill rock it.
otherwise, i dont.
theres been plenty of "big tunes" that ive found annoying and cheesy as fuck.

Later on, when my eyes were opened to Rennie and Adam I knew I had been duped by the forever monotonous sound of florida breaks. I'm not downing the style, but seriously Icey has been spinning the same beats since '94.

well when I saw him in 2003, he actually spun most of the same records he used on his essential mix. I thought that was kinda lame.

For the most part, UK music has always been ahead of the US. With the sound that I'm pushing with the rest of the 2 Charming Crew, there are producers that pop up every couple of months making BIG TUNES. There are a couple stateside....literally, a couple.
One can take this argument and apply it to rock music.
bands from the UK - The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Led Zeppelin, The Police, Cream, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, Def Leppard
bands from the US - Grateful Dead, Aerosmith, The Doors, Kiss, Van Halen, Guns n' Roses, Black Crowes, Bon Jovi, Motley Crue.
Which set of bands are you gonna choose....most of us would take the UK bands.

Whichever side gets past the "Don't Stop, Get It Get It", "rip off a house/trance/hip hop song and drop an 808 under it" sound, and "generic bassline after bassline with no regard for melodies" sounds first.

My answer was definately UK. Most of the US breaks I hear are either weak production/pressing, or uninteresting. I'm not one for pop or bootlegs (unless their nuskool remixes of old acid tunes like "Freak", or "Kubik".) It seems that most US producers now are fucused on a really disturbingly simple beat and a catchy melody. I'd be really happy to hear US breaks go back in the direction of old West coast breaks that Dj Dan used to spin. That stuff was much more musicly interesting yet still had that hip hop funk edge.

A couple times a year we have these parties out here in SF called "Alumni" - it's typically headliners like: Garth, Jeno, Dutch, DJ Dan, etc.
They play music all circa '96 or before...kinda like the Buzz oldskool parties, but WAY better, and WAY cheaper - never more than $5. Fucking SICK.

2006-12-24, 08:43 PM
I'm loving the US scene lately. Not necessarily the breaks scene which has just felt too provincial... I've been getting much more into the party music scene, which basically means anything from mashups to hip hop to booty music to regional music (baltimore, miami, whatever...) to good electro, breaks, dnb, whatever. If it moves it moves units. Hot hot hot things are coming out of Baltimore, Philly, and New York, and some ears in the UK are starting to perk up. "Pawrty music" scene in the US kills the UK's hands down.
UK still wins in all of the "rave" genres though. The output just isn't there in the US, despite good shit still coming out. I mean, hey, I like music that's good -- period -- but most of what I pick up when I buy house, breaks, electro, dnb comes from the UK. I think that's more just that those genres are more widely accepted and have a bigger following. Because it comes from the UK doesn't make it better.
And US Hip Hop > UK hip hop.
People just say they like UK hip hop cause its cool to like things from the UK. I live in the UK and I can hardly give you any other names than Dizzee/Roll Deep and Lady Sov... maybe I don't get out enough, but US hip hop is King, and I can't really imagine it any other way. And that goes for dirty south throw away crunk shit to educated stuff from people like Talib Kweli...
