BUZZLIFE DISCOUNTINUES EVENTS AT FUR NIGHTCLUB

WASHINGTON, DC: Effective immediately, Buzzlife Productions will no longer host Friday nights at Fur Nightclub. The management of Fur Nightclub is no longer willing to abide by contractual obligations and thus Buzzlife is unable to continue the working relationship.

Over the past year Buzz has played host to a diverse group of underground dance artists such as Carl Cox, James Zabiela, M.A.N.D.Y., DJ Dan, Damian Lazarus, Robbie Rivera, Krafty Kuts, MOBY, Kaskade and Deadmau5. It has also raised funds for breast cancer research with a pink themed night and supported Bono’s One Campaign through project awareness.

A leader in the electronic dance music industry and a pioneer in talent-driven entertainment, Buzzlife Productions has brought international DJs to the Washington DC metro area for over fourteen years. Events as varied as the groundbreaking weekly “Buzz @ Nation” to “The Buzz Tent” at HFStival, The Starscape Festival and The V- Fest have all been hosted by Buzzlife. This tradition of “Capitol Intensive Clubbing” will continue.

Tune into the Buzz Forums, with over 6 million monthly hits at www.buzzlife.com for the latest news and event announcements.

ew, no. please, no.

The aspect I miss the most about Nation is being able to wander. and not being all up in everyone's face.

Is there anything that was as big as nations? I really don't think so. I heard Fur was the biggest one after Nations was killed

I do know Five was off the chain when they had the party there a few months ago.

unfortunately they are hard to fill .. people forget .. there was even an attendence prob at Nation (prior to the announcement that it was ending) ...

Big clubs need big numbers ... period ..

and as much as it pains me to admit it .. there isnt the draw for strickly EDM events (especially with all the other places people go now)

I don't think she meant it necessarily needs to be as big as Nation, just something bigger than all these clubs opening up going for that "intimate" feel now where people are falling all over one another. I don't think there are any clubs as big as Nation was, the place held like 4,200 people. My guess would be that Ibiza is probably the closest(??).

actually, the managers have a legitimate interest in dance music. The Nouveau Riche party is moving there (bringing Miami Horror and Gameboy/Gamegirl for their first one) and that party is, hands down, one of the best dance nights DC has going. Which is a perfect fit given the stuff that the management threw out at me when the last Buzz party was there in terms of acts they want to bring to the club...

In the end, while I don't know that it will happen... buzz @ Five would be a solid thing. There are definite advantages to going smaller... helps build hype to make a move into a larger venue more successful in the future..

to be honest as much as we all love or hate fur venue or staff, its a business. lets be honest the club was rarely ever packed, and that is what the club is looking for is revenue. buzz will prosper at another venue though. what about h20, platinum? club envy..idk....

i was not a fan of fur.
i went there like 6 times maybe.
i felt bad vibes whenever i was in that building, and i would usually end up leaving super early.
rude security, rude staff, drink price debacles, some rude patrons, etc all contributed to this.
i enjoyed myself a total of 1 time at fur, and it was probably only because i was mega drunk.
i love buzzlife though, and am just glad that their relationship with fur is over.

I almost didn't make it out last Friday but so glad I did...who knew...glad I was there to close another chapter of Buzz. I have to say there are many good memories even at the Fur parties. With good friends and good music, how can you go wrong....

When Scott gave his farewell and thank you to the crowd at the end of the last Buzz @ Fur the remaining, minimal crowd cheered and applauded for Scott and Buzz. I yelled out, "We'll follow you wherever you go, Scott...." Excited to see where he leads us....

The thing I never understood was why there was no sound coming out of the speakers along the front of the main room, under the booth. My good friend and audiophile brought this up as well.
I never liked the sound at FUR. Not enough bass and the sound didn't fill the main room. There were a few small spots I could stand in and hear what I wanted to hear, minus the bass.
I vote for fuddruckers as new venue

why not change the scene to the crowd?

the crowd is older, so we wont go out as much as we used to.
instead of throwing the weekly

why not limit it to massives?

every good massive is packed

and if a huge company like buzzlife limited the frequency of events, they could probly make just as much with the attendence of these events.

and the attendees will have as much fun at the once a month massives as they would in 4 weeklies

$0.02

I just went to Fur for the first time on Friday . . . . . . got lost with my girlfriend in the mass of ghetto and ended up in a fake ass library looking place? with ghetto asses all acting like they are someone! What a fucking mass of ass monkey's! Other than the sea of assholes in the front of the night club, I had a good time. Drinks were a bit expensive, but they are all over the place. Wasnt Nation's redbull and vodkas something like $11? The other thing that I complained about, was the seating. How can you not have seating, unless you pay some god-awefull price? Also, the girl taking money at the back intrance was awesome. She was really nice and let me in on the list, even though she couldnt find my name or the people that I emailed, on the list.

This was my thought also.

I'm glad to leave Fur. That place fucked me out of so much cash every time I went. I swear they enforced a new dress code policy each week. I've had bartenders take all my money and refuse to give me change, pocketing a 100% tip. Not to mention the upstairs crowd that you had to walk through to smoke a cigarette sucked. I've had multiple cigarettes stolen straight out of my hand while taking a drag.

That said, I am looking forward to the future =D Hopefully a place with friendly security and less douchebags.

Personally I don't care and don't feel the need to know the details. Most people seem to be happy Buzz is moving on elsewhere and it really doesn't make a difference at this point. Besides, Buzz isn't the only promoter who had issues with the place since Glow bailed the moment Ibiza opened its doors.

Well, thank the fuck Christ.

I mean, I hope you don't take any offense to that, Amanda, but fuckabuncha Fur. I'm thankful you'll find someplace better.

I know you wouldn't have done this without having something in the works, and I'm excited to see what it will be. Fur itself was one of the main reasons I haven't been coming out as often. The club is just one giant bucket of suck. We need a club that will treat us better.

Sums up my feelings Nicely, Thanks...

no no noooooooo. Not 9:30 club. Please. I love 9:30 but not for EDM. It just doesn't feel right. I have major club ADD and need different rooms to run in and out of.

Is there a club with a jungle gym? Cause that would be kinda cool too.

I very much agree the 9:30 is good for rock shows etc.. Or maybe even 1 offs but please not a weekly:( I love the freedom to wonder from room to room and get my dance fix to different music:):):):):):):):):)
I've never been to the "Tunnel" only herd about it, but if they put the new walls all the way to the roof It would be perfect from what I here:):):):) Buzz needs a venue like that with ALL EDM:):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):)

no idea... but after they did that... man the venue went from way too big to the ultimate in suck... primarily on account of the fact that the noise bleed room to room was horrible...

also... the need for a parking lot there is massive

NO DOUBT. Honestly, I thought the new "rooms" always looked like a HS play set.

And the AC. Or, bring in more fans.

And still, I'd support Buzzlife at the Tunnel.

tunnel would have been a good venue in 1992 for raves.

now, not so much.

besides i believe there were some recent shootings that brought attention to it and perhaps compromised its liquor license.

The one time that happened I went behind the bar, grabbed my change, counting it in front of the bartender, and the unhappy security guy, noting the total on the screen along with the change, and the fact that it was a water bottle, and NOT alcohol (thus defeating the "drunk troublemaker" assumption). Fortunately for me, Frank White (the older gentleman who generally wears a suit and a porkpie hat, he is in charge of security, and is a 27-year veteran of MPD, as well as a friend) was standing right there, no explanation needed. He said something to the bartender, and that was that. I don't put up with bullshit, and if I'd have gotten in trouble, it would've been worth it.

Don't get me wrong, by and large, I understand that the reason the contract was breached (even though that's blatantly wrong) was business, and it wasn't personal. But I do not like the vibe of Fur, and knew from the get-go that it was a stepping stone. However, I will say, that Fur isn't NEARLY as bad as Avenue. Jesus Christ there's a drop off when comparing that place to this. I'm surprised someone even brought it up in this thread.

As far as the douchebags you're referring to....they're known in my world as "Eurotrash douchebags". (and DC is full of them) The guys that think the key to everything is money.

I leave this thread with :plurstick:

I feel really lucky after reading this post.
I never really got fucked with. Maybe I'm just a menacing looking guy. I don't know.
I always got in with my UFOs. I liked most of the bartenders. Nobody ever stole my cigarettes.
But I do have big shoulders and some facial hair. Somebody at work once told me that he liked my facial hair and that it made me, "look hard."
Anyway, sorry to hear about your bad times.

I'd go to the Tunnel for Buzz.
There is a new hotel being built right near by too.
I would love to go to the tunnel and then party at the hotel afterwards.
No long ass drive home. Just a short walk back to the hotel where other Buzz heads may be staying.
I've been having fantasies about such a thing since I saw hotel, whatever it is, being built there.

Exactly, I wouldn't go there. The area is a fucking shithole. There were at least 3 accounts every week of people having their cars broken into.

There's been a lot more violent crime happening over there in recent years too, I believe.

def wasnt stoked about fur...
or more that fur wasnt exactly stoked about buzz..

you know what i mean..
the main room was weak for a main room.
the mink room was pretty beat as a "second" room.
id rather be in my closet than the mafia room.
and the patio was a parking-lot make-shift shanty-town patio [lol]..

i love buzz, so i was there like a square, but..
good riddance fur.

and i'm stoked about the future. and the suspense is already killing me.
get 'em buzz!

ps.

.......and I don't care if its a year from now as long as it's not at Fur, or Ibiza for that matter......

i actually think buzz at ibiza would be the most crucial shit in the history of clubbing.
have you been to ibiza. the front room is exactly like the nation front/dnb/garage room
(only with mad more space, to get ur dance on). and then when you enter the main room, its 'god-like' .
that room was made in my clubbing dream, where i'm listening to mega dj after mega fuckin dj..

if you could smoke inside ibiza, and replace the armani dbags with buzz kids it would be the greatest club experience on the planet.

either way. GO BUZZ!!

Ibiza the sh*t? The main room perfect and god like?:wtf:

I have been going to Ibiza for well over a year and the venue is sh*t!
I go for the amazing Trance Dj's that they book (and they book the best in the world. This past March one of the greatest lineups in history! Ferry Corsen, AVB, benny Bennasi, PVD, Sasha and Digweed (which was the worst crap set off all time.. I was hammered just to get through it, and i still left early))
I have had some of the worst club crush experiences at that place. Who ever designed that place should be shot! :postal:
There are so many fire code violations waiting to happen. The location of the coat room next to the bathroom, in the main hall are. ARE YOU F*CKING kidding me?? :shakesfist:
THE worst place to put it. YOu are so crushed just to put your coat up. Sometimes they have closed the coat room in winter because it was full at 12am! 12!
I had to talk to the OWNER to get permission to get back in to put my heavy ass coat back in my car since none of the bouncers gave a crap, or would say yes, and then before you leave they say wait, and never come back.

They oversell the venue and close off exit ways and stairwells just because. You can't dance for shit on the dancefloor after 12:30am. Its so packed you can only do a euro jump thing. Moving around is a hazard, (your drink will spill):bricks:

It is the most packed main floor ever! Like a horribly crammed ultra-rave, Bang..April Fools 2 (ol skool hell raves)

You can smoke only on the roof, when they open it (they close it from time to time and never tell you about it.) They just take your lighters and cigarettes. (this happened twice. I lost a valuable lighter and two packs at Sasha and Digweed) :poop:

no gum allowed. :falatic:

I mean after what I told you still think its a Dream location.. (More like a nightmare homey!)

Security is kind of shitty. There are good people (once you talk to them), but most are Steriod jacked up A-holes!

Don't get me started on the price 25-40 a night.:twatpunch:

The bar is horribly packed, and the bartenders are biased, They will serve 'regulars and friends' first even tho you have been waiting for a long ass time and it cost 9 bucks for a stoli and soda. 14 for a long island.

(i am really ripping Ibiza..:popcorn2: )

They oversell the venue, you know what I am tired of flaming Ibiza.

The GLOW people really book the best dj's in the world and the only, only reason I ever go is for the MUSIC. Thats it. Point F*cking blank!

Oh and the front room as the DNB room?? Yeah right:afterbuzz:
You ever been there? The room is 80 percent couches, carpeted, right next to the enterance, and has VIP tables that you have to buy to sit in..

Yeah, really the best place to dance to some kick ass DNB.. :jerkit:

Oh one more thing, the sound is good, not super loud in the main room. I never have to wear ear plugs. And I always wear earplugs..

IBIZA is too BOO-G for Buzz kids. Sorry HORRIBLE HORRIBLE choice for a Buzz Venue.

I liked FUR alot, minus the crammed front room.

Oh and if you hated that..

That is what IBIZA is in every room, every stinking room..

sorry for the rant, but its the truth, and I dont want Buzz kids to be involved with a shit venue like IBIZA for buzz events.. Sorry I just dont..

I sure don't disagree with that. When was the last time I was spotted at Ibiza, Like Halloween.. I personnally am not a huge fan of the venue especially when it gets packed..

9:30 club for monthly massives or Five for regular parties... my choices anyway

Someone I was talking to at SS said Buzz was definitely going to Tunnel.
It's good to see the rumor machine is running.

LOL boy, I will say the rumor machine is running as always. Its funny how quickly rumors turn into "Fact" to some folks..

I would say if your name isnt Scott or Amanda all you have is more rumors....

I could put up with the panhandlers at nation and fur.
I don't want to get shot at for a good time out! lol

it's official - buzz is building nation back in the same old spot..... they're going to do specials where you can catch a baseball game on friday afternoon then walk across the street and go to buzz for $15 (includes baseball tix, entrance to buzz, and a hotdog garnished with rolls)

that was one place I never ended up, the drunk tank. but I have a habit of sitting down and taking a nap just before the point where I would do something to end up there.

there were more than a few times that I took a rave nap and woke up quite a bit later.

I don't remember how many parties were at FUR before half or so of the club changed formats. I know it wasn't many.
I feel that if more time was allowed to pass before the martini disaster things may have been different. A weekly Buzz party hadn't happened for a while. I feel that most of people at Nation were not die hard Buzz fans. They were just people looking for a great night out. So it's not like a zillion people were going to show up at FUR right away because Buzz was back.
After the second largest room in the place as well as the patio changed music and demographics what chance was there?
Not to mention that is wasn't the easiest thing to get some fresh air or smoke. I've been in many shoulder to shoulder crowds. What was different about the martini room was that many of the people acted like they didn't know or care that people had to egress to and from the smoking lounge. And the culture shock me and others felt while walking through that room was off the charts I believe.
I was at FUR all but 2 Fridays I think. I saw some positive changes happening almost every week. Baby steps I would call them. Overall I don't think FUR gave a shit if Buzz was a success or not, other than the money standpoint. If things other than money were given more consideration I think the baby steps would have been more frequent and numerous.

And now that the last nail is in the coffin....

I attended an ABRA status hearing today (06-24-08) concerning Platinum Night Club. At the end of hearing, Platinum surrendered their ABC license and officially closed for good. The ABRA board decided that Mr.Abdul Kahnu can hold only one ABC license in the District of Columbia (currently H20). This action places a hold on the new establishment which Mr. Kahnu was attempting to open in the 5th District (The Big Chill). This will be welcomed news to many of PSA 101’s residents, and should be announced on the PSA 101 List serve. We will continue to monitor the other clubs and notify ABRA of any violations or incidents.

true, but that was majorly due to the fact that fur sucks as a club, and everyone knew that going into it. it was just nice to have buzz again. a lot of people didn't go because of fur, and i think that'll change in a new venue.
