OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE - CUT&PASTE
Beyond is a happy hour event held every Wednesday night from 6PM to 11PM in the Upstairs lounge above Skewers and Café Luna restaurants at 1633 P St NW (at the corner of 17th St and P St). The event features local and national DJs from all over the east coast playing a wide variety of music as well as drink specials and Moroccan tapas.

Music is the key to the event’s existence and DJs spin everything from dubstep to downtempo, underground hip-hop, indie rock, and reggae. The event serves as an outlet for DJs to play music seldom heard in DC, and thus fosters a spirit of creativity and inclusiveness. Since its start in May 2007, a number of nationally recognized DJs have played at Beyond, coming from as far away as New York City. The weekly guest DJs are joined by residents Dan Amitai, Ivan Khilko and Adrian Parsons.

The event is held in a beautifully decorated lounge reminiscent of North Africa, a short walk away from both the U St-Cardozo and the Dupont Circle Metro stations. Beyond features $2 beers, $3 Pomegranate Martinis and $4 Ketel One martinis until 8PM, with drink prices going up by just a dollar after that. There is also a special $2 tapas menu from Skewers all night long, as well as that restaurant’s full menu; extensive vegetarian options are available.

This night I'll be playing downtempo and nujazz for the most of my set, however, it is not outside the realm of possibility that I might play some house as well.

More than likely not, but you never know. :D

according to washington city paper's reader's poll, Beyond is the second most popular happy hour in DC. not too shabby for a party that's only been in existence for 11 months! holler.

I am particularly excited about tonight's lineup -- cliff's return to beyond has been way overdue, and together with local record store repping, and special chillout DRUM AND BASS to close out the night, it's going to be fun.

A big thanks to Dan and the freeform guys that had me out last night, this is easily one of my favorite places to play for the mere fact I can play shit that you don't hear around DC all that much.

For the first 45 minutes i played downtempo and nujazz, had a lot of people trainspotting which is always good, and then i rounded things out with some deep and sexy house.

Definitely a good time and it's an honor to be able to get on the decks at Beyond.

Cheers.

downtempo tracklisting:

Baby Architect - Valgeir Sigurdsson
Reel Life(Evolution II) - Cinematic Orchestra
Naoise(Cepia Remix) - Dosh
Enough - Alif Tree
Forgotten Places - Alif Tree
Waltz for Koop - Koop
Whenever there is you - Koop
Narita (Nostalgia 77 Remix) - Stark
High and Dry - (forget the artist for this, it's one of the downtempo radiohead remakes that's got an extra touch of jazz to it)
Now that I'm free feat. RZA - Outlines

House:

Every Little Thing - Exit Only
Billy Boy - Sunlounge
Alright(Todd Terry mix) - Jamiroquai
unknown - Oliver Desmet
Empty Streets - Late Night Alumni
unknown - Oliver Desmet
insert track here i can't rember at the moment
New York Minute(Joshua Heath mix) - Troyden

Again, had a fucking blast, to the freeform collective, thanks for having me out and to all those wondering about all the nujazz stuf i'm glad you liked it, wish there were more venues in DC I could play that kind of stuff at.

cheers.

crooked beat = playing a track on 1 cd, letting it finish, then playing the next one? http://www.buzzlife.com/forums/images/icons/flush.gif

She was doing that, but keep in mind, she's not a dj, just someone who works in a record store who came out and played tunes.

For what she was playing, I liked some of her tracks.

Furtermore, when I was playing the downtempo/nujazz stuff I was virtually doing the same thing, the only difference was that I was blending maybe 30 seconds of intros/outros to have some form of continuity.

Not really all that big of a deal.
