FABIO [ Radio 1 | Creative Source | Swerve ] - UK

From playing pirate radio to residing at Britain's most exciting and ground breaking clubs, Fabio & Grooverider have forged a path that has shaped the sound of drum 'n' bass and been vital in establishing the house, techno and early breakbeat scenes in the UK.

The duo first hooked up in early 1987 at Phase One, a pirate radio station which also featured the likes of Colin Dale and David Angel. An instant rapport was established as Fabio dropped funk and soul numbers over Grooverider's hip hop beats. With acid house, they started DJing together at Mendoza's - an after hours haunt in Brixton full of the Shoom crowd. Quickly establishing a name for themselves, they began playing all the major raves, spinning a mixture of Detroit house and early rave.

Fabio & Grooverider have always been a couple of steps ahead of their contemporaries, laying down early European techno way back in 1989, and developing the first UK breakbeat as long ago as 1991 at seminal club night Rage. They've also played extensively on the rave and house circuits for years, both together and separately.

Williamsburg, VA - March 30, 1999 -- Supermodel Fabio suffered a one-inch cut on his nose after a bird hit him while riding the new Apollo's Chariot roller coaster at Busch Gardens Williamsburg.

Fabio was present at the park's media event to help promote the new roller coaster. Unfortunately, for the park the timing could not have been worse.

According to a witness the bird hit Fabio during the plummet down the first drop of 210 feet at speeds of up to 73 mph. Fabio returned to the station with blood all around his nose.

Fabio was taken from the park to the Williamsburg Community Hospital where he was treated and released for a minor cut.

Following the incident Busch Gardens Williamsburg spokeswoman Deborah L. DeMarco commented, "He's fine, no serious injuries."

Fabio declined to talk after the incident and instead opted to return to Los Angeles missing the evening media event.

As for the bird he did not fair so well. According to one park guest a dead goose could be seen floating in the river below the drop where Fabio was supposedly hit.

Despite the mishap, park officials kept the ride open after only a 15-minute downtime. Park officials described the incident as an unpredictable freak accident that has never occurred before at the park.

It was good times for sure! IMO they need some additional low end sound down there. But it was still very clean sounding all in all. Met a few new people which is always nice :)

Excellent set by the ones like Dark and Lovely, I really liked the way you two play off each other's sounds. Also, the tempo was too nice. I had to bounce early so I didn't hear much of Bobby or any of Fabio, but Andalu was a quality backup venue and I think Upfront deserves kudos for handling a crap situation extremely well.
