so does craze spin hophop sets and/or dnb sets or does he just spin craze sets (does that make any sense).

Ive went out and seen at him some events where he plays like 80% hiphop with some dnb dropped in and seen him other times where its just the opposite. Does he just play whatever he/crowd is feeling or is he booked to spin specifically one style?

Who cares. IMO. His sets are complete wank. His DNB selection is less to be desired. He can scratch and thats entertaining for like 2 minutes. If this is what we get when Steez and Evan leave then this Club is gonna be a sad state of affairs...

I like Craze. His track selection (albeit mainstream) is nasty and he incorporates some turntablism that is top knotch. Craze had the DnB tent going the fuck off last year @ Starscape.

Opinions vary.

Everyone's got different tastes, I absolutely love Craze and have thoroughly enjoyed every show of his I've been to, never been dissapointed... And you're talking about a 3 time world DMC champ (and then some) being entertaining for 2 min? That's just crazy talk right there...

Meh all that scratching is less to be desired for me. I'm more into rolling beats then a full on ego assult. I aint saying he doesnt have skillz, I am saying his 'DNB' beat selections are whack. For about 2 minutes I enjoy Craze and then walk away guffed at the level of commercialism. Obviously he pulls heads, as they relate to his hiphop and makes crowds intune with his DNB. But just because his Hiphop elements get the crowd into it doesnt mean his DNB is as good as his original rooted sound. IMO I enjoy his DMC style of play(for about 2 minutes), I hate his DNB.

Hopefully many!

It would be a shame to lose Sonar as a venue for dance music for it's size, sound system, vibe & history here & from what I heard last night, it's going to continue there. Maybe not as often & it may take awhile to sort out but I have hopes of it remaining a viable dance music venue as well as live acts.

I realize of course you guys aren't going to be involved in the shows there, but I think with the move you're making & bringing in new venues for dance music (although pre-existing.. new to EDM), there's plenty of room & talent to go around & just make Charm City an even better scene (if you will )

Perhaps it's the "Pollyanna" in me that thinks this way but here's hoping!

I guess theres plenty of artists available but I don't know how many of them make sense financially.

We've got our heavy hitters and we're going to continue to bring them to Baltimore and we've got our up and comers like Evol Intent, Krafty Kuts, and others that we will continue to bring too. I guess only time will tell.

Its ok to hope. The fact is. You dont turn into a DNB promoter overnight. It takes years to figure out that type of promotion. Not many can gurn out the type of turnouts Steez did. You dont wake up one morning and say I am gonna be a EDM promoter, fuck over the professionals and then pin "PRO" on my chest. It doesnt work that way and is a clear cut path to disaster. In the state of mind that the local scene is in: Its a blessing to have top notch talent buyers for a venue. Its a shame most clubs dont get this. Regardless toss the hopes away and know that Steez is gonna continue to do their thing. Thats just how professionals roll, they make things happen - simple as that.

I think I know all that & agree with ya but I appreciate your enlightening everyone else

I've known Steve & Evan for years & know what they're capable of, wish them the best & have offered any support to what they're doing BUT.... I also hope Sonar can remain, as I said, a viable venue for the dance community. It may mean they have to hire a new talent buyer, a new promotion staff, etc but as a venue.. it rocks, so I hope it can do well.

And as I also said, maybe it's the Pollyanna in me and maybe it's wishful/hopeful thinking... but either way  that's how I roll :plurstick:

Honestly this is just funny. At the end of the day the top notch talent That ultraworld and Steez Promo books knows me personally and are not willing to work with anyone else but maybe LG.

Most of the dj's we book have become personal friends / associates and we book them most of the time over the phone and then through their respective agents.

If you think anyone is going to step in and bring the level of events such as any of the 100's of UW events we threw at the venue as well as Drinko De mayo. POTD. Turn Back The Clock and so fourth then you have another think coming.

POTD is happening in baltimore and we are booking it
Turn Back the clock is already tentatively confirmed at a new 2 room venue.
We have also been offered serious DNB events but because of the fact that we are still in between decisions on where to place the edm we have not been able to confirm these events.

These events that we dont book are not then turned over to Sonar. Someone at the venue would need the knowledge and know how to bring them there and then they would have to fight my history and my relationships to get them away from me.

Thats pretty much how its going to work.

Sonar on East Saratoga Street is in the middle of some pretty big changes.

Previous owner Lonnie Fisher left the warehouse club last June to become a project manager for a real estate developer.

Dan McIntosh, who opened the Talking Head Club, took over Sonar.

Things stayed pretty much the same until recently, when McIntosh parted ways with Steez Promo, one of the club's key promoters.

McIntosh said he wants to take matters into his own hands.

"I basically decided that I think I can do it better," McIntosh said.

Last week, I spoke with Seth Hurwitz, who co-owns the 9:30 Club and I.M.P., a promotions agency that has booked shows at Sonar for years. Hurwitz sounded a little uncertain about his future with Sonar.

"I'm not sure where we're lined up there," he said. "Right now, we're doing shows at Sonar."

You have been displaying incredible malice and unprofessionalism. I would think that STEELZ would yes, want to continue doing great business ELSEWHERE WITHOUT having to shit upon the organization that springboarded it/you to where you are. Disagreements happen, business alignments split, but I hate to see previously allided factions burning bridges, causing divides b/w the fans of the music & the clubs and starting scene "wars".

But as a fan of the venue itslef, I hope the next person in there tears the ever-lovin' ROOF off that place with the talent & schedule he/she/it brings in.

Promoters work hard to build a rep and to have solid standing with Agents, booking agencies and supporting patrons. So for McIntosh to come in and think he is gonna run shit better than UW/Steez, to me, is conceited.

The organization that spring boarded steez promo was Ultraworld and Sonar (under Lonnie). The organization that time and time again saved Sonar in '06 and a good part of '07 was Steez Promo and the events created by myself and Steve. The sheer fact is, Sonar can't continue to produce the events that we've established at that venue over the last 5 years without us.

I refuse to take "SIDES" - that's my whole point. I think STEEZ should approach the opportunity of being on their own to prove themselves as a new independent entity (pardon the pun) WITHOUT trashing their replacement. The replacement - whomever that may be...I have no idea nor do I know - should be given equal opportunity to prove THEMSELVES at the venue without having to step into a shit storm of ill-will. OF COURSE some1 new is gonna say they can do a better job - that's their angle and their goal. I say, sit back and SEE what happens...then throw your darts and arrows if it is warranted.

What was being said was, that history and the relationships that we have with these acts and these agents is not going to stop just because we're at a different venue. POTD isn't just going to happen at Sonar because we put them there every time they were in town. They're going to follow us to another venue.

Also, knowing who the replacement is, while he does have a lot more knowledge on the indie rock scene and some other musical genres, he certainly has no where near the knowledge and experience with EDM as compared to his predecessors, us. Therefore the statements made are true in the sense that events on the level of Turn Back the Clock and Drinko De Mayo aren't just going to happen at the venue like they did in the past, because thats not how things in this industry work.

When buzz got shut out of nation that first time I don't think nation could have stepped in and produced events at the level that buzz produced their events. Its just not feasible with out the experience, history, and relationships.

Nobody is throwing darts or arrows at the new person booking the venue. We are just stating the facts about how things in this industry work. The owner thinks he can do a better job and we wish him luck with that. Its hard to establish new relationships and history when someone already has history and relationships with the same artists.

LG had a lot of history and relationships with artists through Ultraworld and Sonar and as soon as he had his own room, i.e. Mosaic, you didn't see those artists at Sonar anymore.

I definitely think you're right. One quote from the owner/new person booking at the venue in a meeting was something to the effect of making the venue more rock n roll, but I've also heard other things related to them trying to continue the dance events at the caliber that they had been at.
