The discussion the ensues is too funny.
"i’m pretty sure i wouldn’t complain if i had a shot of beam or a mango lava colada with a pineapple flag in it. drink the drink. it’s got booze, so it’s good. balls, tits, vaginas, taints. it’s alcohol–who cares?"

I've never heard of it. Is it anything like a Chernobyl?
According to webtender.com, a green wave is:
1 oz Midori melon liqueur
1 oz Vodka
1 oz Gin
1/2 oz Triple sec

all 100% agave tequila comes from Mexico (more specifically the state of Jalisco around the town of tequila- with one exception with a distillery that has a permit to operate on the west coast of mexico- all agave has to be of the Blue variety and grown in this small region). It has to by law. Anything that is a "mixto" (think Cuervo Gold-ew) only has to be made up of 51% agave. The rest of the sugars can be made from carmel, cane, etc. (=make you throw up) and they can be bottled outside of mexico.
so umm yeah....I have :D

<---tequila guru.
I have almost 30 different brands in my collection currently, and the stuff I age in oak barrels.
thats the way to go- best stuff I drink is stuff I age myself...you should try some.
shade
2007-11-30, 04:15 PM
matt, how much are you typically aging? how long do you keep them in casks, and how many casks/how expensive is it to start such a process?
where do you get the tequila from that you age, do you just use other stuff you take out of bottles?
holy crap. you actually age this shit in barrels??
they took us down to the barrel area and that was pretty neat. you don't use the industrial size i assume? ...or do you?! damn straight i have to try some, we should have a tequila night.

I hate to say something nice but that tequila you said you aged yourself was REALLY good, Matt. I didn't even need a chaser and I ALWAYS need a chaser for that unless already drunk. I took a swig at the begining of the night(Five when you played) so my senses weren't numb... yet.

I have two small casks that hold about 5 liters each. I start with high end silver (blanco) tequila (I decide on a blend of 2-4 different brands I purchase) and age them anywhere from 6 months to 18 months.
The barrels I got were from www.1000oaksbarrel.com and cost about 60 bux each.
A repasado (rested) is anything aged at least 6 months- my fave for margaritas.
An Anejo is anything a year or more- this is what I normally drink. I drink it neat, in a snifter.
The process starts with clear tequila and you end up with a rich carmel colored product.
Def recommend. it just takes patience lol
hope that helps!

I havent tried aging other stuff as tequila is my poison of choice lol. But supposedly you can age anything from cognac to vinegar.
there are 1 liter barrels for 30 bucks that you could get to give it a try to see how you like it. (really it takes only a few days to prep the barrels, then its just fill....and wait.....and wait....and wait some more lol)
but I honestly think its the best tasting tequila I have ever drank (and I have tried A LOT)

Actually, I do enjoy vodka...perhaps the one time I tried a martini (appletini) it was made horrible enough to keep me away. Should i give it another shot?
Yes, get something with more liqueurs in it tho. The vodka alone might just be too much(strong) for you. I can't really do those kinds of martini's either. I mean I can but I'll end up dancing on the bar later or something. Or end up nursing it all night.

i had a sip of an apple martini for the first time last weekend.
i thought it was pretty much the most disgusting shit i've ever had.
except for maybe some blue drink i had in hawaii that tasted like cough syrup.
i'm surprised cosmopolitans aren't on the list...are they not that popular or not that girly? i mean - they're pink...?
Cosmo's are TASTY. I love them. Haven't had one in years tho. They're dangerous tho. They're so good you chugalog then are fuuuuubar'd.
The Blue Room stairs in Adams Morgan and I battled it out a few times. I lost most of the time.
if you don't like martini's, I recommend you go to BeBar for their martini happy hour. THE BEST MARTINI's in the business. You will come away loving martini's after you try a few of their specialties

yes...i once committed the cardinal sin of drinking (i.e. beer before liquor) with cosmos once.
it was only the 2nd time i've ever been hungover...
it was so bad, if i so much as moved my finger (literally) i would have to puke.

Is it weird that I like my Red Bull and Vodka with a dash of Maraschino (cherry juice)?
It's yummy.
